I've looked on the internet and oddly can't find this out. I'm not a bike person myself, but I'd like to get one for my boyfriend for Christmas. Can anyone tell me what size a 6' 4" man would need?It would be for basic around-town and flat trail riding.

If you happen to have a recommmendation for a particular bike, that would be great - needs to be sturdy, doesn't need a lot of bells & whistles.

The simple answer is: the largest size the bike shop stocks. Most manufacturers use an "XL" instead of a measurement for their citybikes / mountainbikes, so that's what you should ask for.

Normally I tell people to get fitted to their bikes before they buy, but that won't work if you want to surprise him. Maybe see if you can come to an understanding w/ the bike shop that after Christmas he can bring the bike in and get fitted, and maybe swap out the bike for the right size if needed.

Any bike shop bike will be of good quality for those purposes, probably you could go under $500 and be just fine.

Good luck
Scott

the project with those motorcycles that you owned is they were only crappy motorcycles. branch keep motorcycles are not nicely outfitted motorcycles. At your weight, you may vacation a metallic framed or aluminum motorbike. some will say titanium, yet i ask your self about that when it is adviced hostile to to even tow a baby's trailer on a titanium body in spite of it is residences. bypass to a motorbike save and get some suggestion. you'd be desiring beefier aspects which could take te variety of torque you probable dish out first of all, i'd propose going for a minimum of 36 spoke wheels on any motorbike. Secondly, through a vacation with first rate aspects. do not ingredient in light-weight too a lot. it is extra about sturdiness once you're a Clydesdale ( any rider 2 hundred+ lbs is seen a Clydesdale). i'm 208 lbs and that i need to think about those aspects to boot. Like I suggested, bypass to a motorbike save and ask for suggestion.

it really comes down to the bike..."real" bike companies(not your crappy walmart or kmart bikes) make frames in diff. sizes. every bike company has it's own sizing chart so if I were you go down to your locall bike shop and sit on a few bikes, test ride them and see what fits best for you
