Where did the saying, I point the way, and you keep looking at my finger", origiate?

My mother told me Jesus said it, and someone else says Bruce Lee said it, but I doubt this, as I heard this saying years before Bruce Lee was around.

I believe it is originally from India and the full quote is, "Religion is like a finger pointing at the moon. But instead of looking at the moon, you argue about which finger should be pointing."
