Water is supposed to be healthier than soda and putting it in an aluminum can would defeat the purpose. You do get trace metals from drinking out of cans that are not good for you.

It's probably just a question of marketing ... in order to promote the purity and cleanliness of the water being sold they put it in a see through bottle. It's not so important to see the contents of a soda can.
By the way, bottled water is one of the most wasteful and unnecessary products around in western society. Tap water is bound by regulations that ensure it is safe to drink, bottled is no better for us and think of the millions of tonnes of plastic being flown or driven around the world using masses of fuel.
Ditch the bottled and don't forget to recycle those soda cans

I some emergency situations, you can find water in cans. Most major beer and cola distributors will can water for disaster relief like Katrina.
Other than that, I think it's a perception thing, something to make it different than soda or beer.

Because the strong taste of soda hides the taste of metal. Water cannot do the same.

Aluminum helps keep things fresh and allows them to last longer without spoiling. Since water will not spoil, there is no need to sell it that way.
