I know this question is going to open a can of worms but i want to know....i knew nothing of religion and really i still don't i was not brought up in a religious home, i had a good family, honest kind and loving but never had religion explained or taught, after being on yahoo for a few months i am hearing all sorts of different opinions on religion, So far what i have heard is that jesus' mother had him when she was 15 yes?....well my question is, does this mean that you religious people condone 15 yr olds having sex, having children, not to mention the man who got her pregnant. Please remember i am not giving my opinion, i know nothing of this stuff, im just trying to make sense of it all cos so far what I've heard sounds pretty sordid....

ok cool, im getting it now, some of you need to settle though, i told you i had no idea about this stuff, you claim to want more people to believe what you believe then you need to be more patient with people who have no knowledge of it. I wasn't judging, simply asking a question, but if people are going to be so defensive then maybe i dont want to know about your religion

OK Mary was a virgin when she was pregnant with Jesus. She didnt have sex. Sorry to disappoint u but no it doesnt hurt to be fluent in religion..... actually in the Bible. I am more spiritual.. I actually dont find myself too religious. For one we are all different and it is hard to tell if one is right over the other. I myself am confused more and more these days. But just read the Bible. It tells u everything u need to know about God The Son and the Holy Spirit.

According to the Bible, Mary (Jesus' mother) was impregnated through divine intervention by the grace of God. It was a virgin birth.

Logically, of course...well, you know what I'm thinking.

However, we also have to remember that 15 years at that time was around 30 in this day and age. The life expectancy was FAR shorter back then, and most women married between 13 and 16 years of age.

Ok, the Bible gives no set age for sex to become okay. It DOES, however, state that any sexual relation except between a husband and wife is sinful.

As for Mary's age, you have to remember, this was 2006 years ago, and back then, she was just the right age for marriage.

And Jesus was not begotten by a man. He was the Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit.

The bible is clear to say that Mary knew no man. In other words, she did not have sex with a man. What happened was the Holy Spirit of God put Jesus inside her. Jesus father was not a man but he was divinely conceived. That should never be misconstrued to say that 15 year old's can now have sex. The bible clearly states that sex is made for a husband and wife in a life long committed relationship.

It wasn't a man that got Mary pregnant with Jesus. It was the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus was in heaven when He created the world. He allowed Himself to be born of a virgin so He could know how it feels to be human and be a more righteous judge of humankind.

Even Christians fight about what is correct and not correct.
The Bible is your source. Read it! That's why the Bible is here, to give you the answers.

In those days girls got married very young..(Plus Mary did not have sex to be pregnant with Jesus.)

As for the age.. Look back in history and even into the 1900's, a young lady was considered an "old maid" if she was not married by the age of 17 or so. I don't agree with it.. but I don't agree with arranged marriages either. Most young ladies had no choice in their husbands, their dad's (or families) made the choice of who they were to marry.

Considering that the average persons life expectancy during that period was about 40, she was not so young. You can not judge history with modern values, and ideas.

It is based on immaculate conception. Personally, I don't buy it...

Since Black Parade Billie mentioned it, the story of Buddha's birth was not meant to be taken literally, it is completely symbolic. Buddha was conceived in the natural way...

Christians believe that she didn't have sex but that god made her pregnant in a supernatural way (much the same as the Buddha myth).
