From my own personal experience with braces, they hurt for a few days after they were on. After I had them tightened, they hurt but it didn't last as long. Good luck and see if you can take a mild pain reliever if it becomes unmanageable.

Wow...I remember spacers being the worse pain throughout it all, but there's more: the metal bands that actually do the straightening are threaded through the metal brackets glued on your teeth and connect in the back molars on both sides. The dentist sort of screws them tighter, and as your teeth move the wire begins to stick out the back, and gouges your cheek.
Stay really hydrated, because your inner lips will stick to your braces...and can get pretty raw. Especially when you wake up in the morning and it feels like they've grown together. Just get lots of wax, avoid caramel, apples, and chewing gum. Your grill will be beautiful in no time! Also, even though its hard REMEMBER TO FLOSS. IF YOU DON'T YOU WILL GET CAVITIES BETWEEN ALL YOUR TEETH IN THE FRONT. I did, and boy did that suck. I'm 30 now and had a root canal on my front tooth because I didn't floss enough when I was a kid with braces. Avoid sugary soda too, that REALLY hurts your teeth.

the initial pain last for a couple of days and then you just get used to them. but when you go in for a tightening then your mouth hurts all over again. when the wires that are run through the braces has moved(from the teeth moving) the wires can sometimes poke the back of your mouth. this can rub the skin raw and hurt. the best thing to do to to make sure that anytime that your braces are tightened that the orthodontist cuts and takes the sharp wire off. have him cut the wire as short as possible. but don't worry it will be over soon and then you will look great!!!!

I USED TO HAVE braces and YES YOU WILL HAVE to bear the pain. The price to pay for straight teeth. AND IF YOU WANT TO GET IT OVER AND DONE WITH go for the metal kind they work the best and fastest, although you may look like a METAL MOUTH to some but they are cheaper and faster than some of these invisible kinds and other "non-painful" kinds which I may add probably take forever. The more pain the more faster, the less pain the slower the teeth straightening process is.

Spacers are the worst part about braces. My braces didn't hurt really (especially when compared to the spacers). Braces work much more slowly and move teeth with less force.

For me they hurt for like a week beforr those I had the appliance thing and that hurt way worse for a month all I ate was mashed potatoes, soup, and yogurt. With the braces I ate those same things but for a shorter time. And when you get the braces off everyone says it hurts and feels like they are pulling out your teeth. I totally disagree with that cause for me that didnt hurt either. But the appliance did when I got that thing off!!

I've had braces for about 4 months now. When you get them it doesn't hurt. But after it your teeth will be so sore. For about a week or so. When I just got braces I couldn't eat a banana. So just stick to soup.

i have had mine on for a year when you first get them on it hurts for a week or so although you may find biting objects is painful this goes away in 2/3 weeks and then everytime you get them tightned it hurts they take them all off and replace with thicker wire so not only do you have the first pain when they move it hurts aswell
i suggest for certainly the first week a diet of paracetamol, noodles, ice cream and soup
then ease onto more harder foods!
hope this helps it does get better over time ive had mine on for a year and only have pain for a week
