Finish the job and then pull our troops out. FINISH THE JOB is the key! We can not go in and destroy a country then leave them in shambles. We must stay until the bitter end!
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!

The problem with our involvement in Iraq, besides the fact we went there in the first place, is that we did not send in a sizable force and disarm the entire population immediately upon arrival. Every household is allowed to have 1 AK-47 machine gun. I would double the force in Iraq immediately and begin disarming the population by force if necessary. I would also increase border security to slow the infiltration of weapons and insurgents into the country. This will allow the new government time to deal with humanitarian issues instead of dealing with well armed opponents. Make guns illegal that way when you see one, you know who you're dealing with. You can act accordingly. That would stabilize the population long enough for the government to improve the quality of life for all in Iraq and possibly quell the feuds between factions. I would have all troops out of Iraq within 2 years max.

Thats a tough question. Even though i dont agree with the war, we cant just leave. Now that we are in it we have to finish it. The president is right when he says that we can't let Iraq fall into the hands of anybody worse than Saddam was. With the state of the middle east we do have to make sure Iraq is a stable ally in the coming future. Iran and North Korea both are working on nuclear weapons so we have to be careful. i dont know if i really answered you question but i had to but these ideas on the table.

I would tell Nancy Pelosi that she has wanted to run the war for 3 years so she can have it now and run with it. She and John Murtha must have a plan already. Seriously though. If I were the president, I would tell the Prime Minister of Iraq, that Al Sadr has 12 hours to get out of Iraq, or our brave military will find him and kill him and his army, and if the Sunni Army wants a good fight, then put on a uniform and meet our Marines out in the open, away from all the women and children and see who is the toughest. If they win, we leave. If we win.....well then we can leave for good knowing our marines did a great job.

Do a very slow withdrawal of the troops to Kuwait and
let the Special Forces and US Navy Seals do the job of training more Iraqi troops to take over the duties of defending Iraq and if something happens that would require our presence again, then we would go back in and help the Iraqi army and their Navy forces regain
control of the situation. In other words, let the US Military
take care of the military aspect of defending the countryside and leave the politicians out of it.

I would look back at history and see what we did in the last war that we won. It was WWII we won by bombing the cities and killing the civilians until they surrendered. We have air superiority so we would not be losing anymore of our men. Once the people realize they are going to die for some jackasses Jihad they would start pointing the finger and telling who is doing the dirty deeds and it would soon be over. To me it's like the little guy that pics a fight with the big guy then gets his butt kicked and wants everyone to feel sorry for him. Well I say you want sympathy it is between sh-t and syphilis in the dictionary

I would change the focus of the troops to training the iraq army and set a deadline for the iraqi people to take back thier country. As soon as they take back over I would start the redeployment of troops back to the US and only leave a small number there, one or two battallions, to keep the peace and continue to train the iraqi people. Maybe build a US maintained training facility there or something. Just a thought though.

I would immediately meet with the Iraqi prime minister.
I'd tell him, "Look, your people want to kill themselves over silly religious differences, fine. I'm not going to lose any more American soldiers to this madness. Here's what we're going to do: I'm going to pull out every single US soldier in 60 days. That's how long you have to get things under control with your own soldiers and police forces. No extensions if things get better, no change of mind -- you've got 60 days. During that time my generals and troops will do all they can to help you, but after that you're on your own. Oh, and by the way, you owe us a permanent 5% tax on every single gallon of oil you ever sell, to pay for the billions Bush wasted in your silly country.
Now go home, and get your act together. We will still patrol the water borders to your country, so you won't be invaded by sea, but after that if you all kill each other off I don't care."

I would announce that the U.S. military will no longer follow any rules the enemy with which we are engaged in does not follow,if you hide behind, civilians, mosque, hospitals, homes, they will be destroyed, from this day forward the full military might of the U.S. will be brought forward,in any engagement involving U.S. troops, they will not be sacrificed, needlessly, trying to fight a p.c. war,and no politician will be allowed to interfere with any generals decisions,as far as combat is involved, the military will be charged with battlefield decisions, and expected to bring victory, regardless of civilian casualties,as WW2 was fought!

Whatever I do one thing I will not do is run out of Iraq and leave it to its fate. Bush did this in Afghanistan and the result is there for all to see.The Talibans and even Osama Bin Laden who were the friends of USA(They say Osama had planned to retire in America) are now its avowed enemies and the country is in shambles. Compare this with our attitude in post World War II Europe. We floated Marshall plans for lifting Europe up and put it back of rails. We should have not gone out of Afghanistan then. Similarly we should not quit Iraq now but reduce our glaring military presence. We should, so to say, pay 'war reparations' to Iraq in the form of overtly liberal financial grants. We should t ry to obliterate our image as those who made their children die because of our economic blocade by establishing hospitals, schools and create goodwill. May be this would be treated as abject surrender by us to Iraq. Let them have that satisfaction but slowly and surely the average Iraqi , who is no dunce, will appreciate our assistance and there would be recrudesence of good will for USA, seen during the Iran-Iraq war. I would not only ensure that Saddam Hussein is not hanged but even restored his glory now as a President of a democratic republic. I will recall the officers who were associated with him during the Iran -Iraq was and entrust the job of creating goodwill by associating with Saddam. With the settling down of Iraq the Middle East will also calm down with terrorism becoming a thing of the past. The anti-Israel sentiment prevailing now is a transferred wrath against USA. By and large the Muslim world has accepted the fact of Israel. I will give up this talk of International Terrorism, especially its Muslim-centric character. By putting Osma behind every incident we are unnecessarily blowing him out of proportion. While terrorist incidents are a fact of like most of these appear to be attempts by frustrated youth denied adequate opprtunities.Already Bush has admitted that Osama had nothing to do with the Towers or even Saddam's intransigence. He is best ignored.

Attempt to get a multi-national force, preferably with a lot of Muslim country troops but no Iranians or Syrians. Obtain international help ($) to reconstruct the country's infrastructure. When you can't go to school or go to the market safely, you are not going to care if there is a democracy. It must be safe!
That is a start.
