..things such as missing a plane that ended up crashing, a loved one who was miraculously healed while being IN A HOSPITAL in most cases etc. etc. - we've all heard these stories - yet turn around and say that he doesn't intervene in matters such as genocide, war and natural disasters?

Ego? Blindness? What exactly causes people to believe such things?

Miracles happen all around us, but our science has been able to explain a lot of them. Show a TV to someone from 100 years ago,and they'd think it was some kind of miracle. We know how electricity works and we can use tit to our advantage; but why does it do what it does? Maybe something else is responsible.

I will agree that some people look for miracles in the strangest of places (the Christ on a piece of toast). But this are the people that are looking strength from anything. those miracles in my opinion are a stretch. but regular miracles still do happen and there not as subtle as you would think. nor do you need to squint, turn your head to the side and focus past something just to see it. Miracles are right in front of us, most just chose not to see them.

As far is the body, sure there can be miracle healing, but that mostly evolves the correct medical treatment. It has been proven that Spiritual aid, with the correct medical treatment; can help person over come most things that a person without religion would find almost impossible to overcome. that is the main reason religion and hospitals are still associated, not because of death.

It is mostly due to the overuse of the word "miracle" in our world. There are actually 3 types of miracles.

1- the "every day" miracles. Childbirth, sunrises, trees, the normal things in life that strike us with awe and beauty.

2- the Statistical anomoly. When I cut off the tip of my finger at age 2 my folks were told a skin graft would never take and that they should consider amputation. However, defying the odds, it did take and my finger is fine. The chance of it working was very low, and only statistically improbable, not outside the realm of possibility.

3- the true miracle. These are events that suspend the natural laws. The parting of the Red Sea, the Resurrection of the Dead, etc. These events cannot happen given the structure of our world, so when they do, it is a result of supernatural intervention.

When you have a miracle you are thankful, believe me.
My traffic accident on the freeway was very trivial, but I didn't get a scratch - and I thanked GOD - believe me.
When my asthma kicks in - and I have medicine I thank GOD for the humans that thought it up , and for HIS helping them find it. All medical advances are miracles.
The words "miracle" and "trivial" really can not be put together, unless you really can't feel the joy of your life or that of others.
Miracles are special, quiet individual ones or massive world saving ones - they all come from the grace and blessing of GOD.

God does intervene in our daily lives. But He doesn't intervene to prevent evil from happening in the world. Usually when He intervenes, it is just to confirm or remind us that He is there.
Missing the airplane is not a miracle, but it does show that God was taking care of the person.
I have seen one case of a person healed in the hospital in which the surgeon who had given up claimed that the only explanation was a miracle from God. That's good enough for me.
When I saw your question I thought you were talking about things like: "A miracle it rained!" Or "a miracle, the sun shone for our picnic!" - in which case I would have joined your pooh-poohing

I have prayed for things and am fortunate enough to have seen my requests come to fruition - in surprisingly unlikely events.

I am a natural skeptic, but some things I have seen in my life go beyond mere coincidence. These experiences have reaffirmed my faith.

Miracles do happen in larger circumstances you buffoon of a penguin! They're just too big for your bird-brained body to process! Think about wars and global situations that could have been much worst then what they are/were.

blindness and hope mix.

apparently they dont understand how medicine, science, and the human body works to heal. theyd rather say ok god did! praise him! someone gets hurt, satan did it! blame him!

ignorance is a bliss with religion
