i think it's called a parradox or something. it has no logical answer.

If he was telling the truth, then he has told a lie.
In saying 'This is a lie.' he has defined what he has said, he has called it a lie, if it was a lie, he was telling the truth therefore it was a lie. If it was a lie, he called it a lie, therefore it was the truth.
Another way to present this, is to write down on one side of a blank card 'The sentence on the other side of this card is true.'
On the other side of the card you write 'The sentence on the other side of this card is false.'
It is quite amusing seeing some thinkers repeatedly turn the card first one way then back, again and again.

cant be true cos calling it a lie would be a lie, but it cant be a lie cos he would be telling u the truth and by saying he's lying hes not telling the truth. F*ck ive gone crosseyed

People who tell the truth usually just let you figure out for yourself that its the truth. Its rare these days.
