I have been going through a very difficult time with my dad being close to death. I thought she understood why I have been distant. I think this is why she is seeking affection from another man. Should I be forgiving or cut her lose for hurting me during this difficult time?

Wow- drama queen much?
It's the INTERNET- she's not having sex, she's typing flirty sentences to someone. You don't even know if it was really a guy.

Yeah, throw away your seven year relationship because she was using AIM.
Maybe get into one when you're mature enough to handle it and trust that she's not going to cheat on you.

Heavily flirting? That's not really all that bad. Talk to her again about the rough time you are going through. Tell her how she can be there for you. Reassure her that while you may be distant, you still love her and you are still so happy to have her in your life. If she doesn't already know that you know about the flirting, tell her you do and that it hurts you. She's probably just having a little fun. Everyone likes to know they are still desireable, but it doesn't mean they're going to run off on you. It sounds like you took this pretty seriously and you are already talking about "cutting her loose." Maybe it's something you've already had in the back of your mind. Maybe this is the last straw in a series of small (or large) betrayals. However, 7 years of a great relationship should not be ended by just this.

You need to talk to her and let her know what this is doing to you. But she is in a lonely state also, you being distant doesn't help. So therefore she is seeking affection from someone else. Tell her you will be there for her from now on and make sure you are. Make her feel like she should be there for you in your time of need and you will be there in return instead of pushing her away.

Oooh, tough one!!!

I reckon you should be forgiving. It's not like she was sleepin' with him.

Tell her what you just said: I thought you understood why I've been being distant because of my father's illness? This REALLY hurts me...were you intending to hurt me or were you just looking for fun?

And if she says "just fun" give that girl some LOVIN!!! And give her an opportunity to give you some too!!! Fall into each others arms dammit!!!

I would try to talk to her about this situation before ending a 7 yr relationship. Although I don't agree with any types of cheating, it is important for her to know that what she has been doing is wrong, regardless if you have been more distant due to family issues.

Well, you should tell her (if she already doesnt know) about you knowing about the whole IM thing. But, i dont think its THAT big of a deal for you to break up after 7 years together, its not like she went out and met up and had sex with him or anything. If i was in your situation, i'd give her a second chance, but after having a lengthy talk with her.

Let it slide. You have to understand, she might be feeling worthless, you're going through a really tough time and she doesnt know what she can do. Actually, shes probably thinks there IS nothing she can do to help you. So show her a little more attention, even if it means talking about what really hurts.

I give my condolences to your dad.

Good Luck.

Cut her loose, instead of being on IM with someone else she should have been with you and helping you through this difficult time.

Listen to the reason you choose to break up with your girlfriend after 7 years. Come on man. If you dont have communication with your signficant other by now. Break up with her.
