she has tablets the vet has given her and he said it was early stages. as i want her to stay with me as long as possible i would love any suggestions that could help keep her as pain free as possible for as long as i can. Or would anyone know a website for cancer in animals, alternative cures, pain management in animals. Anything along these lines would be appreciated.

I am sorry for both you and your dog. I have no knowledge of any natural remedies to help your dog, the only suggestion I can make is to ask your veterinarian or veterinary oncologist what he/she would recommend for pain. God Bless.

I feel for you - I just lost one of my Dobermans to bone cancer a few months ago, she was only 6.

bone cancer is very painful, the only advice I can give is to monitor her pain daily. This was the only time my otherwise stoic dog had shown pain, so I know it was bad. I could tell when the meds weren't working (panting, shaking and verbalizing) I would call the vet and we would change meds or up her dose. I don't remember the meds she was on - some were tablets and I also had injectibles I could give her when it was really bad. The cancer spread to her lungs and I had to put her down.

One of my friends had a doberman with lymphoma and he went to a holistic vet who did alot with diet and some hrebal medicines.
It gave the dog almost two years onger than what they thought at first.
The dog was not in great pain up until the last month or so.
At that time he put him on pain meds and he and the regular vet did as much as possible to manage the pain. When it became to great they put him down.
I had a doberman put down this summer due to cancer in his mouth not in the bone but in the soft tissue. We did several surgeries to remove it but it had spread and kept comming back.
It grew so large so fast he was having trouble eating. He was not in bad pain but you could tell he was frustrated about not being able to get things into his mouth and it was starting to hurt. He owuld turn his head so you could not touch his face.
I am sorry for you about your dog. Kepp him comfortable as long as you can and then let her go. It is not easy.

First of all, my heart goes out to you. Try the following website. You may be able to find a good holistic vet through them.

This link is to different yahoo groups for cancer support.

My six year old German shepherd has bladder cancer. We are trying a combination of chemo with natural supplements. I'm working with my regular vet, who has also done a lot of research into holistic treatments, and a board certified veterinary oncologist. As long as his quality of life is good, we will continue.

Good luck with everything. I know how difficult this is. You are not alone.

My brother - in-law has one of those big mastif dogs - 130lbs or something like that - it had bone cancer and they chose to amputate the leg - now a few months later the cancer came back in the other leg. The dog is suffering and if the brittle bone breaks it can cause internal injury/bleeding. Would it not be better to think of putting him out of his pain/misery than keeping him around for your own sake?!

He's 10 they're probably just his friends. Stop reading too much into it, if they are those kind of calls why does your son give out your number and think this is okay? Take some responsibility and show the boy some morals instead of coming to Yahoo talking nonsense, how old are you? 15? Acting like a child.

Sorry!
You might try Homeopathy. Yahoo has a group called Pets 4 Homeopathy
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Pets4Homeopathy
If you post there, they will answer your questions.
I've been reading a lot lately about Turmeric (the kitchen spice). It has anti cancer properties and may help some.
