People do use the term "miracle" loosely, when they narrowly avoid serious injury for example. But technically a miracle is an event that cannot be explained in natural terms. So, when the bus you are on rolls over and you are the only survivor, your survival may well be a work of God, but it isn't technically a miracle, because all sorts of natural factors may have contributed to your survival. When someone has terminal lung cancer, the progression of which has been well documented by a series of xrays over a period of two years, and that person is then prayed over by some people from his church, and an xray taken the next moring shows his lungs to be totally clear of cancer, and the doctors are dumbfounded and unable to offer any possible explanation, that would qualify as a miracle, obviously after such possibilities as mixed up xrays, etc. are clearly excluded.

1. probability and chance can only be determined within a strict mathematical construct ie. limited variables and known values for a starting point. it is incorrect to even try to calculate the 'chance' of surviving the fall of the world trade center, for instance, because it is not possible to know all of the variables. it is not like dropping a deck of card and determining how often the ace of clubs will fall face up.
so the people who like to try to convince the world that they are intelligent by offering odds on such things are, quite frankly, fools.
As far as what constitutes a miracle?
I would define it as either of two things, divine intervention that directs a certain outcome (even if it DOES fall within the realm of what could naturally happen), and that which could not happen, but did.
take creation or evolution both have to agree that at some point in the past, either everything that exists (atomic material) always existed or it appeared form nothingness-there exist no third choice. In either case appearing or having always been, without a further history is a miracle.
giving sight to the blind by non-natural means is a miracle etc...

There is a saying - There are no coincidences only probabilities. In a less philosophical way it is known as fate. Winning a $100,000 lottery with a $1 is a 1:100,000 chance. You can't call it a miracle, but rather a probability or simply fate. As it was due to fate that I answered this question. I hope this has been helpful.

I was a passenger in my car going down the interstate. My husband was driving bad and I complained a few times. Finally I asked "why is it that just because you are the man, you always drive us? Why don't you just pull over and let me drive."
He agreed and pulled off at an exit and we changed at the gas station. I had only been driving a few minutes when I got this voice in my head that said "pull over and let Charley drive." I excused it as my own weird thinking and kept going. I then heard it again "Pull over and let Charley DRIVE" .
By then, I knew God (or his angels) were telling me this. I became upset about it because I thought I was being taught a lesson of submission which I didn't want to learn. I argued with God in my head. A third time, I heard "PULL OVER AND LET CHARLEY DRIVE."
At that point, I asked my husband "where should I pull over because I don't know why, but God is telling me to let you drive?"
Charley said to just pull to the top of the ramp and we would switch out there. We did so and he pulled back onto the ramp. but no sooner than we got up to speed, we had to stop in the middle of the interstate. There had been a major collision. We sat for about 3 hours and watched news hellicopters, life line, and all kinds of emergency vehicles ahead of us by like a mile. When we finally got through we saw a 3 car collision had happened and they were mangled. There had been deaths.
I knew right away it hadn't been about submitting to my husband at all, but about God or his angels letting me know of the danger ahead. I ws sure glad that I had been prayed up and reading the bible or I may have missed his voice.

Hmmm...I've always thought that if you really believed in God, then there wouldn't be any such thing in your opinion as a "miracle". It's like believing food will spoil if you leave it out overnight, and then being surprised when it does spoil and calling it a "miracle".

miracles are illusions. people who dont understand how probabilities and statistics work base anything that they deem impossible (which isnt impossible just improbable) as a miracle. and anyone knows.
