One of my cats recently ran away. Now, the other one is REALLY clingy, follows me everywhere and will look at me and "meow" real loud. Is this her way of missing our other cat? They were never close before...she hated it when we first got him but after 3 years she sort of "put up" with him. Now this behavior since he's been gone. Can anyone please tell me what's going on? I'd sure appreciate it."

She's worried about the other cat. Way back when, when my cats were indoor/outdoor, and one would go missing, sometimes my other cats would look for them (meowing and looking all over) for weeks.

When I lost my elderly cat a few years back, I thought I was going to lose my other cat too. She lost 1/2 of her body weight in two weeks! She was also clingy and remains so to this day (3yrs later). She's also refused to like any other cat. She learned to tolerate the others... but she won't get close to another cat.

Just try to give her some extra attention. She's grieving and could use the extra comfort.

I noticed a huge difference in my cat's behavior when we had to get the other one put down. I did a little research and learned that animals in a household (not just cats) live by a kind of heirarchy. One cat will very likely be the 'king' and the others will fall into place somewhere below them. Your cats strange behavior may be due to that heirarchy is changing and he/she is trying to figure out where they belong on that ladder now. Hope that helps.

Your cat has endured several traumatic events in her life. She may be needing more reassurance that the home is hers and you still love her. She is an older cat so there may be physical changes as well. Just keep loving her and caring for her needs. Every animal has their own personality.... Just like people. Yes, cats are very different than dogs. Just observe her closely and continue to communicate with her.

She's grieving.

Another kitty companion might help, or might not.

A lot of extra love, attention and understanding is in order now.

OK this might sound a little weird my cat did the same thing the vet people said that she has separation anxiety and yes it is possible some cats show it in different ways for example when ever i got back home my cat would have weird marks all over it and really bad scratches on its face because she beat herself up. i guess she thought that we were going to leave her like wen we gave the other cat away. there is medication for this and it really sounds like your cat is going through the same thing.

I would say he absolutely misses the other cat. It would be a good idea to get another one. My daughter had 2 cats that were "joined at the hip" so to speak. One of them died. She got another one from the SPCA and it turned out to be the best thing. They are fast friends. So, get another cat. Maybe a kitten so he/she can grow up with the other one.

Well, he probably does miss him but he is probably really spooked and clingy by the fact that one one is just gone. Maybe he wonders if he is next.

It is very possible that she is missing her companion. I would get another friend for her.
