Takes some time for liver enzymes to elevate, could be several months to years. Hep.C. is transmitted via blood. Good time to use condoms :-)

The risk of hepatitis C being transmitted in monogamous stable relationships are 1-3%. Having multiple partners increases the risk. It is rarely transmitted sexually UNLESS there is blood involved (rough sex, anal sex, sticking pins in each other, etc). It is a blood to blood infection, meaning it has to go from the blood of an infected person, to the blood of an infected person. If you have risk factors that involve blood to blood contact then you should get tested. There is a 2-26 week period when the virus may not be detectable through antibody tests. Good luck.

The first test is usually done between 6 and 8 weeks, then at 6 months and 1 year. Hep C is not usually passed by sexual contact it's possible but not likely. I was married to someone who had hep C for 15 yrs I got tested every year and never contracted it. My husbands doctor told us that it would be unlikely that I would get it.

Unless you shared blood during or after sex, maybe by borrowing each other's toothbrush or razor, your risk isinfintesimally small. Doctors don't have all the answers about hepatitis C yet, but it does not appear to be sexually transmitted.
