I guess that's the way God haters see it. Being willing to suffer for eternity for us the way He offered makes me believe there was a lot more love involved than you can see... Jim

I am not a Christian so that I can make myself "feel special and superior to others". No, in actuality, Christians are supposed to serve others, laying down their own selves, and put others above themselves. If I may point out a comment that you made about all religions being "equally flawed, some of the newer ones less so", then would you reword that? Otherwise, your argument contradicts itself. How can religions all be equally flawed, while some are less flawed? Just a thought. And every possible situation looks as if there was no creator? Perhaps you should reconsider that also. EVERY possible situation? So everything happens by chance? Even the diverse biological structures throughout the world, right down to the molecular level? And perhaps you could quote your source for saying that "98% of the scientific community" is convinced that religion is false? In a sense, that should not affect Christianity, as it isn't necessarily a religion. In actuality, it is a relationship with God, but if you what to reference it as a religion, I will still understand what you are trying to say. And besides, if God just opened up the sky, peeked down into earth, made sure that everyone was looking, declared, "I'm God!" and closed the sky back up, then where would faith come into play? And anyone who from then on denied God's existance would very likely be declared a lunatic, or a baised person who was trying to decieve himself! God gives us a choice, a free will. We can exercise it how we wish, whether it be against God, or with Him. And if your not with Him, don't think there is any middle ground.
Matthew 12:30 NIV
"He who is not with me is against me..."
It's perfectly fair of God to let us know that there is a heaven and a hell, and providing a way to heaven for us through Jesus Christ. Don't call it unfair because you don't like it, or perhaps because you just don't like the idea of having to give something up to follow God, thus finding it easier to go through life saying there is no God, or denying His truth! God bless!
Acts 2:21
And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'
John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

You're kind of stereotyping aren't you? Not all Christians think they are superior to others. I know I personally don't. There are a lot of misguided Christians that are extremely judgemental and self-righteous, but that isn't the way Christianity is supposed to work.

Is not the "god of science" the same way? For there was a time when 98% of all the evidence pointed to a flat earth...
Or was the real issue with man, and not science?
It is the same with God....it is us who don't understand Him...yet, Jesus said, "I am the way and the TRUTH, and the life..."

I'm sorry you feel that way. It sounds like you suffered some type of hurt and are trying to blame God or the Christian community.
I use to feel that way too, before I actually stopped listening to what man was saying and let God himself speak to my heart.
In reality, if you read the Bible it says that no one is good. That we are all filthy rags. ( you, me, pope, nun, ect.) You will never please man and you should not try to. If any man calls himself a christian and thinks he is better than anyone he is no better than the pharisees that the Bible speaks of. Allow your heart to let its guard down just enough to give God a chance, you will see that its not or ever will be about anybody else but him!

I totally agree with you, but god or religion is not the one to be blamed. It is us people who mes religion up. Mostly all religion and god have a positive message but us humans spoil the message.

He only wants people in Heaven who actually have faith in Him, and love Him. If He were to just walk around earth performing miracles that give evidence that there is a God, then there would be no faith.
And Christianity calls us to be humble, not prideful or superior.
