Bring it to their attention, but be very polite. Anyone handling your food you don't want to tick off.

You are not being a pain, You would not pay for a car you did not want so why pay for anything else you did not want?
There is polite ways of getting what you want.
Say something like, " I am sorry to bother you again, but I believe I ordered Cherry pie and not Apple, would you mind changing that for me?"
When they return say, thank you for the great service.
Works every time and you don't hurt feelings.

By letting them know their mistake, you may be helping them by making the employees aware of such errors. Think of it that way, not that you are being a pain. You have a right to have what you pay for. Just say exactly what you said above "I don't want to be rude, I just want what I ordered".

Would you throw the money you paid for the coffee in the trash? No don't dump it. Just politely ask for them to correct your order.

It depends...if I can see it being made right there...I'll have them correct it. If I can't see them preparing it...forget it. Give me my $$ back. The one and only time I sent something back was a baked potato with all the fixings + 1 black hair. The brought me another one + 1 black hair but on another area of the potato. At that point I decided they could have both the potato and the steak back and remove from my bill and not bring me anything else.

You can be polite and get what you want at the same time- don't be hesitant to let them know. Especially if you are at Starbuck's where anything you order is five hundred bajillion dollars just for a tall. And, they should be happy to accomodate if it was their mistake.

You paid money for food the way you wanted, you should be able to complain and get what you paid for. Complaining doesn't necessarily equal being a pain.
