These facts about Jehovah's Witnesses are perhaps relevant to this question. The more one compares this Christian religion with others, the more remarkable it is shown to be.
1. Jehovah's Witnesses have no paid clergy. Yet they remain tightly organized with more than 6.5 million active Jehovah's Witness preachers (about 16 million associate themselves with the religion). Even fulltime preachers and workers at their branch offices are unpaid volunteers.
2. There is no elite class among Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the few 'anointed' among them enjoy no special privileges in their congregations on earth. An anointed person (one of those relative few with a heavenly hope) is not elevated above his fellow congregants in any way, and he may not even qualify for appointment as a simple 'deacon' or elder. There are no titles; EVERYONE is addressed as 'brother' or 'sister'.
3. No person benefits economically from the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the 8 to 20 men who serve on their Governing Body receive simply room, board, medical care, and reimbursement for certain personal expenses according to the exact same provision as every other branch volunteer.
4. About a hundred men have served on Jehovah's Witnesses' Governing Body committee during the past 125 years or so. The vast majority of them have spent the vast majority of their adult lives volunteering for their organization's purposes, and the vast majority have died faithfully and near-pennilessly while still under their legal 'vow of poverty'.
5. Amazingly, Jehovah's Witnesses did not splinter as a sect from some other religion. Instead, a truly tiny but sincere group of bible students studied only the Scriptures to determine the will of God. Thus their religion remains absolutely independent of and not carrying the sins of Christendom's history, yet carries the authority of Christ's teachings.
6. Despite the distortions of anti-Witnesses, throughout their modern history Jehovah's Witnesses have refused to claim divine inspiration or infallibility for their teachings. They have pointed to the bible (and not any particular translation) as the only inspired infallible means of knowing God's thoughts. For over 125 years, their teachings have been presented as merely the results of sincere bible research by imperfect but godly humans.
7. Scholars recognize Jehovah's Witnesses to be the only true martyrs of Nazi concentration camps (strictly speaking), since they could have left if they simply renounced their faith.

8. The South Korean government has formally honored Jehovah's Witnesses for refusing to cooperate with the Japanese military during WW2, even while the same South Korean government currently imprisons Jehovah's Witnesses who refuse military service for the same conscientious reasons.

9. Jehovah's Witnesses produced one of the first motion pictures with sound; early releases were in 1912.

10. The Watchtower and Awake! magazines are easily the largest-circulation religious magazines on earth; about 27 million and 32 million per issue.

For one they don't have as much hatred and ignorance that most of the people who replied to this question do. I can't believe some of the things people on here say when they obviously don't have the slightest clue what Jehovah's Witnesses are about. It seems like most people bad mouth JW's and call it a cult from hearsay and false knowledge without even having first hand knowledge of what JW's are about.
I would say most JW's are alot more open minded and don't come to conclusions from what others say more than most people. They research and study and make sure of their beliefs and are definitely not brainwashed as some would say.
There not followers like most people to who celebrate holidays and such even though they can be proven to come from pagan origins and most other religions know that holidays are wrong also but wouldn't dare tell that to there followers in fear of losing them.
If one really came with a open and discerning mind and really wanted to study and come to an accurate knowlegde of the bible they would see that the teachings of JW's are not restrictive, quite the opposite they lead to a happier and more fulfilling life.

OBEY LAWS, even inconvenient ones, like speed limits when late for work;
PAYING TAXES, rather than claiming religious exemption;
KEEPING THEIR WORD, like to the IRS on not promoting politics in church;
TEACHING YOUTH to wait until marriage instead of having sex for fun and just using protection;
TREATING YOUTH with respect, and not just a "do what you're told!" attitude;
TEACHING YOUTHS the whole Bible, and not just Bible stories, right along side parents;
NOT LETTING INDIVIDUALS get lost in the crowd of an oversize church;
EVERYONE is taught the same, making it easier to start a new congregation, with a set of elders;
MAKING sure every member is evacuated in a natural disaster, such as in Katrina, and not mostly the good contributors;
THAT KINGDOM HALLS compliment neighborhoods, lacking large and expensive decorative features;
HONESTY FIRST. Ask 1000 movie stars the religion of their maids, gardeners, drivers, etc. and see which they say most often.
Finally, JWs are why doctors can't simply treat your children without your knowledge, though that is being widdled at with abortions.

They don't celebrate holidays because Christian holidays are mixed with Pagan holidays. They celebrate a holiday similar to Easter to honor Jesus' death. They don't celebrate birthdays because they think your death is more important than your birthday and the focus should always be on God, not yourself. They do celebrate wedding anniversaries since it is a union before God.
I'm sure if you contacted your local hall (I believe that's what they call their church) I'm sure they have someone that can tell you all you want to know. They have different interpretations of the Bible, the role of the Father, Son, and the holy spirit (the trinity) than other Christian religions. And yes, contrary to popular belief, they DO believe in Jesus, therefore they are Christians- just in a different context.

Jehovah’s Witnesses? Yes, that is the way they refer to themselves. It is a descriptive name, indicating that they bear witness concerning Jehovah, his Godship, and his purposes. “God,” “Lord,” and “Creator”—like “President,” “King,” and “General”—are titles and may be applied to several different personages. But “Jehovah” is a personal name and refers to the almighty God and Creator of the universe. This is shown at Psalm 83:18, according to the King James version of the Bible: “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.”
The name Jehovah (or Yahweh, as the Roman Catholic Jerusalem Bible and some scholars prefer) appears almost 7,000 times in the original Hebrew Scriptures. Most Bibles do not show it as such but substitute “God” or “Lord” for it. However, even in these Bibles, a person can usually tell where the original Hebrew text uses Jehovah because in those places the substituted words are written in large and small capitals, thus: GOD, LORD. Several modern translations do use either the name Jehovah or the name Yahweh. Hence, the New World Translation reads at Isaiah 42:8, “I am Jehovah. That is my name.”
The Scriptural account that Jehovah’s Witnesses draw on for their name is in the 43rd chapter of Isaiah. There the world scene is viewed as a courtroom drama: The gods of the nations are invited to bring forth their witnesses to prove their claimed cases of righteousness or to hear the witnesses for Jehovah’s side and acknowledge the truth. Jehovah there declares to his people: “Ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, and my servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am Jehovah; and besides me there is no saviour.”—Isaiah 43:10, 11, American Standard Version.

Everyone here gave their opinion and not one fact...they spoke from a biased point of view and from opinions that they heard from others. JW's are peace loving people who carry out Christ's command to preach the good news before the end comes, just like Noah was commanded to do.
I wonder why you are doing a report on JW's? That's interesting though...just please get your facts from reliable sources...maybe a JW...I am one but then again, not to be biased maybe you would also like to add on how our preaching work affects those who are not JW's. Apparently it shows on your answers that people do not like them because the "truth" hurts them and they do not wish to look into their own bibles to see if we are telling them the truth or not. They'd rather put us down than have facts to back up their opinions.
We are the worldwide Christian society of people who actively bear witness regarding Jehovah God and his purposes affecting mankind. They base their beliefs solely on the Bible. We do everything voluntarily, knock on doors, build Kingdom Halls, publish books, mags, give publications, you name it, it's all done out of pure love. Not one person is paid to do this...we do so because, "God loves a cheerful giver". Many have misconceptions of us and do not ask WHY we believe such a thing...such as not celebrating holidays, and such. The bible is the answer but people choose to "have their ears tickled" and keep their "traditions" rather than listen to the truths we give them.
We are NOT a sect or a cult. Some define sect to mean a group that has broken away from an established religion. Others apply the term to a group that follows a particular human leader or teacher. The term is usually used in a derogatory way. Jehovah’s Witnesses are not an offshoot of some church but include persons from all walks of life and from many religious backgrounds. They do not look to any human, but rather to Jesus Christ, as their leader.
A cult is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader, and often their adherents live in groups apart from the rest of society. The standard for what is orthodox, however, should be God’s Word, and Jehovah’s Witnesses strictly adhere to the Bible. Their worship is a way of life, not a ritual devotion. They neither follow a human nor isolate themselves from the rest of society. They live and work in the midst of other people.

They were persecuted during the Holocaust. They had to wear purple triangles on their clothes and were forced into concentration camps. All they had to do was sign a letter stating they renounce their faith and quite a few didn't sign the letter. I always thought that was an interesting fact

the witness do not celebrate any holidays because you are putting something above god, they do not celebrate Christmas because they say no one knows exactly when Christ was browned and they do not celebrate anyone birthday for the same reason they don't celebrate holidays. they think its OK to drink alcoholic drinks. they do not take blood if they have a medical condition that requires blood to be given.they do not respect other peoples privacy or their choice of religion. they think that Jehovah witness are the only ones that will go to heaven. they do not believe in going into the military or fighting for their country and they will not vote in elections

Well, we don't emmerse ourselves in worldly entertainment, politics, holidays, or attitudes. We believe that Jehovah is God's name, and that His purpose for the earth has not changed since Adam and Eve: that the earth should be populated with sincere, humble people who worship Him. We believe that Jehovah sent His only begotten son Jesus to be an atonement for our sins and give mankind a path to God's mercy. We go door to door in ministry in obedience to the command to go forth and make disciples. We don't believe that a loving God punishes people with eternal torment in a literal hell.. we believe that hell is the grave and that you are offered either eternal life or eternal death. We gather in small groups for 5 meetings a week at a Kingdom Hall ( which we usually build in 'quick-builds' in one weekend) and we believe that Jehovah finds favor with men from any nation who works righteousness... we have no racial divisions in our organization. No one gets paid anything for any work they do, and there is no collection plate passed around at our meetings. Contributions are given privately and freely, without fanfare. We don't wear crosses, vote, smoke, and anyone who commits a gross sin and is not repentent enough to change is disfellowshipped from the congregation, as per the Bible's instructions. I realize this has been sort of haphazardly given to you, but I wrote 'em as I thought of 'em! Good luck on your report!
