He did not have to die to go to heaven. That was not the point of His death at all. You see, back in those days, whenever you repented, you were supposed to sacrifice an animal and make sure that blood spilled of course. When He died on the cross...He was the ultimate blood sacrifice. After His death people did not need to make sacrifices anymore (animal ones). He took on all the sins of the world. Now, if you want forgiveness, all you need to do is ask Him for it!! Jesus Christ was already the perfect sacrifice for every sin there ever was and ever will be!!

God is the owner of all of us because He created us. He said that the only way He could forgive sin is if blood was shed. In frank terms some one had to die because of the sin. We are told that the wages of sin (that's what you earn) is death. Jesus was the only Being that could offer an eternal sacrifice for sin. He died so we wouldn't have to. It's substantionary. Jim

Because we have all fallen short and sinned against God- See Romans 3
And the wages of sin is death- Romans 6:23

God is Holy and Just and does not allow sin into heaven. For his Kingdom is Holy. So he made a way for us to be with him forever- by sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins- He took our punishment so that we could be set free and given everlasting life. There is no greater love than that. Those who believe in Jesus and repent of sin are given eternal life- Born again in the Spirit of God- made new. It is awesome! I am eternally greatful to my Lord and Savior. I do not deserve His love~

Hebrews 9:22
Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

--And that is why Jesus had to die.

1. To break the bands of death. You can't get to heaven without a body, which Jesus's death allows you to take up again in a resurrected form. But more importantly,
2. Mercy. Without mercy the demands of Justice are that ALL who are not perfect must go to Hell. Mercy allows for a Perfect One to redeem whom He chooses based on His own qualifications.

Because the wages of sin is death. In the old testament it was oxen, goats and ?sparrows?, and sheep, that where sacrificed for sin.

But the old Testament also hinted at Jesus coming finish the Law. One sacrifice for all sins.

...We read the following in ! Corinthians 15:
...3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
...4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
...He died to pay for our sins. God cannot tolerate sin in His presence. He sent Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, to die in our place, and He was raised on the third day. He has completed the work of salvation, nothing more is necessary, and we can add nothing to His work on the cross.
...What is left for you to do? Believe.
...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.
....Whosoever will, may come.

in the old testament, the jews had to sacrifice animals for their sins. it was the blood that was needed, God could see that they were no longer doing this, so in order for all mankind to be saved, Jesus shed His blood for us, so that all we have to do is ask for forgiveness and it is done. it ended the sacrificing.

Sin is death. To pay for a sin blood must be shed. That is why sacrafices were executed, but when GOD's only son came to die for our sins when we should have died; It paid for all of us. Yet, you must still pray for forgiveness when you sin.

according to the OT, a sacrifice was required to pay retribution for your sins. usually it would be the slaughtering of a lamb. however god sent a "universal" lamb for sacrifice thus jesus is the lamb of god.
