baby is almost a year old. i've noticed that on one side of stomach feels like one of the major muscles is really defined. the other side not at all. has anyone every experienced this? is it from always holding child on one side, would that build up the muscle more on one side than other?

Just to add- if your belly button popped out when you were pregnant you could have had a hernia or torn muscle which is normal during pregnancy. If you are having problems with toning one side that used to be tone then you could have some damage there. Unfortunately, no matter what any trainer tell you the only way to fix it is plastic surgery. My girlfriend just went through this.... not the surgery part- just trying to get her stomach flat again!

hmm. it could be from holding baby on one side more often. we tend to hike that side up more. is your arm on that side stronger?

if you had a c-section, it has to do with the muscles that they cut. it can take a year or more for certain nerves and muscles to heal. some people have numbness or lack of muscle tone for two years or longer. sometimes even permanently.

ask your OB doctor. they're the best one's to ask because they get that question all of the time! (i've worked in ob/gyn for 10 years.) since baby is almost a year old, you're probably due to go back in for a yearly anyway. & they'd love to see you and the growing baby!

There's some good articles on http://buildmuscle.hammocksurvivalguide.com/
Not sure if it covers targeting specific muscle groups.
