I know many very intelligent Marines who hold an infantry MOS. Being in the infantry does not simply entail pointing a rifle and pulling the trigger. Being a grunt on the deck involves a solid thought process and an ability to quickly adapt to the changing environment of your situation. The Marine Corps trains all Marines to think, including the junior Marines.
The Marine Corps believes in the philosophy of the "Strategic Corporal." Simply put, the Marine Corps believes that ANY Marine can at any time be placed in a situation to make a decision that could have an impact on the bigger picture.

My husband had a high ASVAB and went into the army as an infantryman so I'm sure there are alot of marines who do same thing. Being infantry does NOT make someone stupid.

Yes, your ASVAB score just tells you what you can potentially be, but the decision all together is yours. ASVAB just tells you what you CAN be in the military, doesn't mean you HAVE to be. So if you do decide to join as reg. enlistment marine, you can be an infantry man, and then maybe while your in and serving get your college degree as well. there are many marines who are infantry who still go out to battle, its the thrill or just what they want to do Intelligence has nothing to do with it.

Some of my closest friends are Marines. Spent a lot of time with 0311s (MOS for basic infantryman). While not always the brightest group (not meant as an insult) they are by far the most humble and usually honest group I've had the pleasure to serve.
So, is this a friend, relative or is it you? Why ask "Why?"

Well whats a "high" ASVAB score? I took it and got a 75 and I am going Infantry. I leave in June, after I graduate.

I know MANY people who scored high enough to do ANY military job out there and chose to go infantry... my buddy who passed away in Iraq was accepted to West Point but chose to go enlisted anyway....

I wanted to do this, unfortunately I was only 17 and my parents wouldn't sign the papers...only for the Navy, so that's where I went.
