George, can you handle another answer? Without seeing you or doing any sort of physical exam, I can only guess that what you're describing is Thoracic Outlet Impingement Syndrome. It may be a host of other things, but this is my shot in the dark. These things usually come on when one keeps their arms elevated (imagine a barber with his elbows in the air). It's a repetitive, incideous onset type of thing. If this is indeed what it is, the answer is to stop the offending movements, put a warm compress to the area and if you have no other health problems (no allergies to aspirin, liver or kidney disorders, stomach ulcers or high blood pressure), take an over the counter NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drug) like Motrin, Naprosyn or Aleve. But my best recommendation -- and the safest, is to spend the money, take a little time off from work and go see your doctor. Have him actually take a look at you and do a physical exam -- none of which I have done.

You need to relieve the pressure on the nerves. Lying down on your back with ice under the shoulder blade several times a day should help. If it does not relieve the numbness after a few days, you will probably need physical therapy, esp. cervical traction.
Good luck to you. Been there!

Look for a physical therapist that does manual manipulation. They are way better than a chiropractor. If you are anywhere near St. Peters, MO Call Hands for Health 314-636-397-2784. She helped me after seeing a chiropractor for over a year and not getting much better. Best of luck!

Yes, I have had a similar experience. The nervous system I think has some channels sensing the outer effects. The centers differ from one to another. You need not worry or take medicines, the numbness will jus go away by itself.

I have had it and it hurt very badly all of the time, I finally could not stand it anymore and made an appointment with my Doctor, he gave me shots in the area where the pain was. It helped right away. hope you feel better soon.
