That's a decision that has to be made on his part. You could make yourself more approachable by smiling more, playing hard-to-get, or any other method you feel appropriate for the situation.
Or you could simply be bold and go against traditional norms and ask him to dance.

Well, you could try hanging out around the guy(s) you're interested in right when the song starts. And smiling at him. If all else fails, ASK HIM TO DANCE WITH YOU.
Good Luck!

flirt with eye contact and maybe he will ask you to dance. if it doesnt work just walk over talk to him and ask him if he will dance with you. because it will probably not happen unless you take the first step towards him. im a guy and i know from experience that without taking the first step nothing happens. ive missed out on a lot because ive been afraid to take the first step.

when a slow song starts try to say like, i love this song, see if it works... if it doesnt ask him to dance. sometimes guys are too shy or just too concentrated in their own lives to pay attention on other thing and we have to give a push.. tell me if it worked =*

a good way is to tell one of your friends and have them go over to the boy. they can just say "hey you see that girl over there...do you want to dance with her.." or something like that. it's worked for my friends and i many times. but don't be upset if he says no...there are more fish in the sea! =]
