god gave us all no purpose in life except that which we choose? What if there was nothing for us to do?

I personally think life would be empty. What you're describing, however, is existentialism; if you're curious, you might read some Camus ("The Stranger" or "The Plague" would be good places to start). If you lean Christian (or at least theistic), you might read some of Soren Kierkegaard's writings. I would start with "Fear and Trembling," as it's accessible (although still difficult).

To a great extent, the freedom that God has given us does extend to our purpose. The problem with "The Purpose Driven Life" and its ilk (and by the way, do you know *anyone* who has truly changed her/his life six months after reading this book? I don't) is that it doesn't offer deep changes and insights. (It's also a bit Pelagian for my taste, but that's another story).

I believe that God created us so that God could have fellowship with us, but the freedom that we're given means that we have a life in which to dance with meaning-making.

What if there truly was no outside purpose, no creator, no deity, we were just HERE.

I'd make the most of it anyways. Just because I have no extrinsic meaning doesn't mean I can't look at the world around me and decide that this or that is meaningful and work towards a goal. I might as well make the most of my existence.

He did give us a purpose, you too. Matthew 28, the great commission - "go out and tell the world about me." We are to spread the good news of the gospel and live our lives accordingly. A silly hypothetical question. sorry, no out for you.

he did give us free will so the ideal of we have no purpose except what we choose to could be true.

as for not having nothing to do, there is always something to do.

but you have the freedom to pick what it is and if you will actually do it.
