My concerns as a step-mom of a 14 yr old girl are completely different than the typical sex, drugs, etc. I'm more worried about her self-esteem issues and the way she cares WAY too much about how she looks and what other people think of her. I'm also concerned about the way she acts in public and when she's away from her family. I would like her to be a kind and decent human being and to treat others the way she wants to be treated. Seems so hard to get across to a 14 yr old freshman!

I think having 6 sisters, the most important thing to worry about for your daughters is their self image. It may sound dumb, but the girls that love and respect themselves, those are the ones that accept themselves. If your able to accept yourself then you'll be a stronger person for it. You won't be so quick to try the drugs, or to lay down with the first guy that makes you feel like your worth something. Weight is a serious issue with young ladies these days, this can be just as dangerous as STD's, or drugs. If you love yourself you won't disrespect yourself.

Basically it comes down to: we can't be there to protect our baby and we know how dangerous and scary the world is. Parents just want to protect, we never want to see our children hurt for anything. It's a love thang.

If I had a baby girl child, I would make sure she was learning something and that the teachers were good and kind and had something to teach her. Or I would do homeschooling instead.
