He does, to those that seek Him.
Many are blind and refuse to see. Pretend they are deaf and don't hear or listen...

There is a two plane approach. The first was a physical presence, the second after Christ was a spiritual presence.
The first was based on law or the letter, the second on faith and spirituality. Thus the pyhsical circumcision in the OT and the circumcision of the heart in NT.
Faith is the higher approach and the one that saves, not by sight, but by believing without seeing.
Wanting to see shows lack of faith in this newer and more blessed approach by God. After all, they SAW G*d but didn't believe, from Adam (refused to believe in G*d's way) to Jesus, (many Jews questioned how he could be G*d's son despite miracles) right???
Many, many, stories like that in the Bible. So, if they didn't believe while they saw G*d in their time, what makes you believe that humans would do any better about it now in our time?
That is why the Bible was made for our sake as lessons to learn.

1. For most of the time covered in the Old Testament, God showed himself only to the highest priests who were waving around bits of dead cattle and sprinkling blood on leather seats.
No one's doing that these days.
2. I asked this question in Bible Study.
The answer I got then was "We don't know why God has chosen to be distant from us in these times."

God didn't show himself to anybody in the OT, he showed himself to Prophets.
Most Christians don't believe it is possible to have Prophets anymore.
They think God has shut the door on revelation.
Why would God turn his back on us after thousands of years of Prophets?
If God showed himself to someone, he or she would be a Prophet, and no established church would want any part of it --- it would eat into their revenue source. For many religions, at the end of the day its all about money.
I believe God did show himself to a recent prophet - Joseph Smith. He started the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are commonly known as Mormons.
God loves his people just as much today as anciently.
Here's the catch, anyone that believes that Joseph Smith saw God and was a Prophet, becomes a Mormon. So only Mormons believe he was a Prophet and Mormons are the only major religion in America that believe in modern prophets. Main-line "Christians" love to universely reject this thought, but that is just a popularity contest - anyone who believes it converts. There is no where in the Bible that states that there will be no more prophets on the Earth. It does advise to be wary of false prophets, but mainline Christians - due to a lack of faith in an active God - reject the possibility of all new Prophets! They can simply state -- "no false prophets!" while they sit, fat dumb and happy at their church socials. That sounds harsh, and I totally understand how hard it is to take a serious look at your own beliefs, so I am sympathetic to all these main-line christians. But the out and out rejection of all prophets is a lazy way out.
Jesus taught that a prophet is a prophet except in his own town. I think that can be extended to a prophet is a prophet except in his own TIME!
Bible history is full of prophets who were rejected by their own people at the time. Jesus was rejected by 99% of Jews, because they - like main-line Christians - were in established organizations and did not want to listen. You believe what you want to believe. Why follow someone new, when it can cause social pain?
I have prayed to God about this issue. I have an extraordinarily strong sense of peace that God DID in fact show himself to Joseph Smith and instructed him to re-establish the original faith of Jesus Christ. I believe Joseph Smith was a prophet just like Mosesa and Elijah.
The garbage that anti-mormons spit out is just to obscure the spiritual reality of this. People really don't want prophets. They want a comfortable seat at the Church Picnic. Not a new prophet to read.
Take a chance to read Joseph Smith's story. Even if you think the chance that Joseph Smith was a prophet is remote, if he was a prophet, that would be so important the question is worth the trouble of asking God.

God does. But many are spiritually blind to see it. When a person purposely rebells against God when God reveals Himself, person dies spiritually, is spiritually blinded.
Many chose the way of destruction. Few chose the way of life. Many become spiritually blinded (die spiritually). Few never rebel against God, reject Gods truth.
So Jesus shed His own blood for the remission of sins for many. Through Christ we can be born again. With that, people see God show Himself more and more.

God has not quit showing himself, the people of our time are very calloused to the spirit of god and because of his we as a people do not have the faith that the bible prophets had. we have all the conveniences the world has to offer, his makes us think we don't need to have faith.

God shows up little in the bible from what I read. Adam mearly heard his voice, If I am no mistaken, in Eden. Usually some angel shows up as a representative of god.
