Your TV will probably be outputting whatever your TV is tuned to on the SCART socket - on your DVD try recording from the AV channel. Or spend 30 quid on an external freeview box and hook it up between the aerial and the DVD recorder. This will also remove the need to have the TV on to record.
RF: Aerial - Set Top Box - DVD - TV
Scart - Set Top Box to DVD, DVD to TV (I'm guessing that as you have a DVD R it has two scart sockets?)

This should be possible without buying another set top box.
1) try putting the rf feed first to the tv and then to the dvd.
2) does the dvd have a scart in as well as out. If so connect that to the second scart in the tv.
You will need to record from the tv to the av chanel on the dvd.
Good luck

Hi there. So far the only tv I have come across that receives Freeview and has the capability of allowing you to record it is one of the older Sony models ( cannot remember the model number, K8 something or other). But Sony don't usually change to inferior performance once they have a successful model, so chances are all their modern integrated digital TVs have the ability.
You have to set your DVD recorder to AV1 or AV2 (check at the back to see which port the SCART lead goes into, it is marked; but it may be marked EXT1 or EXT2 or L1 or L2). Select the freeview channel you want to record and hit the record buton. If your TV allows you to record in this way, and it ISN'T a Sony, let me know what make and model it is so I can recommend to my customers please!
Good luck

Some record onto the hard drive or dvd, others just to dvd. It depends on which make/model you have.

alot of dvd movies can't be recorded I mean alottttt. The best way 2 do this is 2 buy a dvd burner 4 u compt. and find a prog. that will allow u 2 burn them. These prog. work differently then trying 2 record off a dvd player. A dvd player will show blocks when a dvd burner will not.
