She has been vomiting for days..it is now turned into bile. She will not get up to urinate and now smells of urine. She wont move, is lifeless and looks to be in pain. Every stomach medicine given by the vets wont help. She is dehydrated but will not eat or drink. She has lost a lot of weight. I do not know what it could be..they have done blood tests and xrays and nothing came back. I cannot afford urinalysis and all of those things so I thnk it may be a disease. Should I let her suffer through it? I really really need some help.

Ive been to the vet twice...they can only hold her and give her fluids. They dont know what is wrong without running tests and i dont have the money to do those....Ive already spent 500 on tests this week for her. I can tell she is seriously ill....but I think she may die and I need help

If you can't afford to do the test then you won't be able to afford the cure if there is one.
You can be a loving owner and friend by putting the cat to sleep and stop it's suffering. I have stayed with my pets while this is done, it's the best I can do for them at the end. For my cats I have them first given a tranquilizer so they don't have to suffer the process which sometimes reqires use of the neck vein.
I have lost many pet/friends over the years and it is always sad to see one go. That doesn't out weigh the joy they bring during their lifetime.

My first diagnosis would be poison. Perhaps she ate some rat poison, or a recently poisoned rat? Do you have any serious enemies who could give her food? Thallium or arsenic are the most likely suspects, although there are a whole host of compounds that would do this that might not show up on most tests. If you're lucky it was a whole lot of ipecac in the water bowl and your cat will recover on her own accord soon if the vets keep giving her fluids. I don't know if you will be able to afford long-term vet stay, but whatever poison is in her system should dissapate eventually even if you can't afford more tests or blood chelation. Make sure that she does not ingest any more of whatever she ate, and just keep putting more fluids into her. Check your home for any toxins that she could have been exposed to, like antifreeze or perscription medication pills that could have fallen on the floor and been eaten. It could be as simple as dysentary from drinking from a stagnant puddle, but there is no way for me to know without the lab results. If you find a likely suspect, call the vet or search the web for any cheap treatments.

A urinalysis is probably the most inexpensive of the tests.

She could be diabetic. If the doctor did a blood test, he should have done a urinalysis too.

She'll need to go back to the vet because she sounds very sick indeed, and not to alarm you but she could be dying. Dehydration is an extremely serious condition. Without the proper fluids, her organs will begin to shut down.

If you aren't able to put out the money to have the emergency care, the only other option is to have her put to sleep. She does sound like she's suffering.

Maybe a 2nd opinion? I think a urine test would be cheaper then what you have already done for her and some vets let you finance when your pet gets a severe illness. I wouldn't let her suffer through it because I think most cats would take care of themselves to some degree if it was something like a stomach flu that would just run its course. I'd definitely see another vet though, since I have had really really good and really really bad experiences with different vets.

Also, does she go out? Could someone have poisoned her? My friend's cat was poisoned with anti-freeze and she threw up a lot before they finally had to put her down (when they figured out it was anti-freeze).

Put her to sleep and end her suffering. Once a cat or dog is dehydrated to the point that they are lifeless there is usually no turning back. If she isn't fighting and you don't have the money you should make her comfortable. I have seen many animals suffer because people didn't want to pt their animals to sleep even after we tell them that they most likely will not survive the night. I would much rather be with my pet and know that I helped relieve their pain than to have them die alone in the night in a strange place unlike home.

i would take her to the vet fast one more time and see what they say cats can get distemper too i think and you should not let her suffer. i would try a different vet. i am surprised the one you took her to let you leave without finding out what is wrong with her first. she has been suffering all this time. dont take no for an answer! MAKE them find out what is wrong with that poor animal or tell them to give you a choice to put her down. I cant imagine how bad that hurts you to have to watch her go through that and not know what to do. go to a different vet. good luck to you and her i hope she gets better. again DONT take no for and answer sweetie!

I hate to tell you this but your cat will die if not treated. I have been in your shoes and the only solution that I can give you is to surrender your cat to the humane society. They will do the tests to see what is wrong and see if she can be cured. If she can be cured they will do whatever it takes and then adopt her out when she is better. If not they will put her to sleep. At least she will have a chance and you will feel better knowing you have done all you could. Good luck to the both of you

Please put her out of her misery. I fully understand that sometimes we cant afford to pay expensive vet bills. The kindest thing now would be to end it. She could have a number of diseases that can only be discovered by an endless bank account but she will suffer while you wait for results to come back anyway. Good luck and dont feel guilty, you have done everything you were able to afford.

if you can not afford the differant test and procegures you may consider putting your cat to sleep (at the vet) it is very humane and will keep the cat from getting worse and that may become sooner than you think seizurs and lose of control of bowl movements and extream howling may be to come. my mom had a cat that was 20 years old and started getting sick they gave him an IV on his neck for fluids but that only made hime more comfortable (it was used to see if fixing the dehidration would help him fight the infection) you may want to ask your vet about this option. of course if you want (it's kinda dishonest) you can find a human society in your area and bring your cat in and say you found it like that and they will either treat her for close to nothing of they will put her to sleep for free (i think) but if they can get her better you can always adopt her afterwords!!!

I wouldn't let my cat suffer maybe your vet can set up a payment plan for you but I would get it some help. My cat was very sick like that lost 1/2 its body weight........ Had to have a feeding tube. He is all better now. Never found out the cause of his sickness.
