I'm about to sink some money into the top of the line POLK Speakers LSi25,But I also like the Paradigm reference 100.
I have this one time splurge before me and I want to maximize my purchase.

My advise is to go to a dealers that carry the speakers that your interested in and do some serious listening. We may have our opinions, but only your own ears can be the final judge.

Ultimately, you will have to let YOUR ears decide that, but in my opinion, I would choose the Paradigm over the Polk any day of the week. The reason is, that Polks look good, but their sound is lackluster by comparison. And their specifications have proved to me to be exaggerated. I've owned Paradigms as well as Polks and these are my findings. If you're specifically looking at Canadian built speakers, you might put PSB (who's founder is the brother of Paradigm's founder) in their older models such as the Stratus Series on your short list. One of my favorite all-around speakers is their Stratus Gold floor speaker system. Although it is in high demand on the used market, and the current used prices will no doubt reflect this. The last PSB pair I've owned was the Stratus Bronze, and it was quite impressive. About PSB as compared to Paradigm, PSB tends to offer somewhat more warmth and feeling -perfect for jazz as well as vocals, and should be an excellent match for your Onkyo. Just note the nominal impedance if the model you're considering is rated at less than 6 Ohms, whereas the A-809 may not like 4-Ohm loads. Happy listening!

Haven't heard the polk series but I listened to a set of paradigm's recently at a audio/video store and was extremely impressed. The best advice is to listen to both speakers. Get a test cd, one that incorporates the full audio spectrum and see which one provides the most realistic detail. In the end you should buy the one that you like listening to the most

Polks sound like really good speakers, but with Paradigms, it's like there are no speakers. You are in the club listening to the real thing.
