While I would want to do the same thing. I would call and report him. Animal abuse is serious ppl that abuse animals are usually seriously sick ppl and go on to be more serious crime offenders. The govt. realizes that now and treats it as a serious reporting. So do report it. Don't hit him because you will get in trouble.
The only thing with animal abusers is they have to have proof, so of the course the dog can't talk but if they go there and the dog appears injured then they will do something.
Depending on where you live though they might not as much so try the humane society/animal shleter and ask them what direction you should go. They will help.

As tempting as that sounds you don't want to go to jail for beating up the guy. If you call the police they will take the dog away and he will get charged. There is no excuse for beating anything. Weither it be a dog or a person. Good Luck

Its not right to punch dogs but you would probably get a more serious charge for beating the guy than he would for hitting his dog. Be the adult and just report him.

Was this after the dog tried to bite the toddler? No?
Nevermind
Just in general.
I would advise against assault and battery as an answer to lifes never-ending stock of jerks, idiots and ratbags. It's a serious offense carrying serious jail time, and you'll never get "self-defense on behalf of an unknown dog" to work as a mitigating factor.
No. Call the cops. After enough complaints, either the cops will get him, or the dog will.
You might check your rage issues from time to time, as well... just sayin' :)

Rob, you don't look that stupid, but maybe you are. If you want justice for the dog, let the cops handle it, but for you to even touch someone over an issue like this, will get you some very costly court time, including lawyer fees. Hell, he might even be able to collect for some nonsense, if he has the right lawyer.
Learn to pick your battles. This way, isn't one that won't cost you, financially!

You know what would be just all wrong...if you go to beat the crap out of him for punching the dog (which all of us would love to do) and the dog goes to bite you!! How's that for irony?? It's not worth you going to jail - report him :-))

If they give him a warning better he thinks twice before doing it again. If you you make justice by yourself, which is not permitted you surely can get into trouble. Violence can never be justified.
There are many laws made to protect animals from such kind of conduct. He is already breaking the law. You can call one of the many organizations for protecting animals. You can obtain their phone in the Yellow Pages.

Can I help too? No one should be punching their dog unless they had a godo reason to like if it was attcking it owner, othewise, yes beat him up thats what i call animal abuse. We take in animals to take care of them to have a happy life not to get beating up by an owner! GET OFF THE COMPUTER RING THE DOORBELL, WHEN HE OPENS THE DOOR PUNCH HIM, THEN LEAVE AND THEN THINK TO YOURSELF, I DID MY DEED OF THE DAY!!! I would do that!
Or beat up your car in the middle of the night, blame it on him take his dog, and him arrested? Problem solved?

No way dude, He could take you, everyone knows that dogs are better boxers than people. If you would have watched, the dog caught him up it the "rope a dope", and the man jumped out of the hold and slamed him with an over head right. I think that was pertty impresive. If the dog didn't take him, you have no chance.
