Your respondents are getting confused.

1. Hypochondria is where people imagine that there may be something wrong and imagine that they actually have an illness

2. Munchausen's syndrome is where people are craving attention and reassurance and to get it they will present themselves and describe (sometimes pretend to have) symptoms of an illness.

3. Munchausen's by proxy is where they use a third party to present the symptoms (often real) e.g. breaking a child's arm.

Hope this clears things up

Munchausen syndrome is a psychological disorder where the sufferer pretends to be ill in order to get attention.

Hypochondria refers to a an unfounded belief that one has an illness.

Both conditions would cause someone to repeatedly go to hospital, the difference is merely in the reason why.

The name of this illness is Hypochondria and a person who suffers from this illness is a Hypochondriac! Its sad really because they invent illness and when they are genuinely ill they are never believed!!

I think you're talking about hypochondria. That's where someone is constantly thinking they're sick, and will often go to several doctors, pretty much "looking" for a problem.
