My 7 year old still needs to think about it but he is remembering that he writes with the right so that helps. The middle one is left handed so I have no prompt for him so he has to think harder, yet the 2 year old can put out the correct foot and hand I ask for when putting on socks and gloves - and it's not the same order each time. I do vary to help reinforce and to prove to myself he does really know! How long this will last I don't know - but it just shows there is no age for a guideline (by the way, NEVER ask my 42 year old sister for directions - still points left when saying to turn right!!)

It depends on the child. Even som adults have trouble remembering left and right! I know my oldest child knew his left from right when he was about 3 but a lot of children at his nursery didn't know. I think they SHOULD know by the time they are about 8 at the latest but, although it seems one of the easiest things in the world, it can be confusing, esapecially if a child is left-handed because some people use the phrase "you write with your right hand" to help remember!

a child's ability to learn to differentiate between left and right comes at different stages. some learn earlier than others, this is not a problem they will catch on in time. some of today's adults still have problems with this action.

As always, this differs from child to child. But I am 30 years old and I have a hard time with my left and right. I have to hold up my hand and pause to think which one is which. Dont put too much pressure on it- he/she will get it- and if not then they develope ways to deal with it. :)

My 14 y/o stepdaughter still has to hold both of her hands up to see which hand makes an "L" to figure out which side is her left side. I think it all depends on the child.
