My son is 18 months old and bites his sister who is 4 constantly and with no provication. He bites her so hard he leaves his teeth marks! I have tried everything I can think of to get him to stop. I've tried time-outs, telling him no, and when that doesn't work spanking him and gently biting him. None of these things have gotten him to stop and I don't know what to do now! Help!!

How funny. My niece breaks skin with her brand new chompers too. We are all wary of her. She has missed very few of us. Do these kids need something to chew on?

I think you smear a little spicy sauce into the very front of the child's mouth whenever they bite.

Muzzle?

I'm just kidding. Just be consistant in saying no and trying to keep him from doing it in the first place by figuring out when he does it. (I'm assuming he does it when he is upset or bored or something, haha my baby bites me because he likes to see me jump. So when he tries to bite me I say no and then play peek-a-boo or whatnot to keep him amused)

Oh and a playpen ;-) You can put the 4 year old in there to play if the 18 month old can climb out. That way she can have some peace and play with toys that are dangerous to an 18 month old.

my in laws own a large daycare center and have been struggling with biting for a long time. Unfortunately my daughter was one of them. Soon as he bites tell him no and give him a cold wash clothes to bite tell him it is okay to bite this not his sister. This may work it worked with my daughter but not with some others. But i can tell you it is a phase and it will pass!

when he does it give him a taste of some hot sauce or some yucky flavoring that he doesnt like just do it every single time...i guess hot sauce would be a little much for an 18 month old but give him something really yucky and he will stop and make sure that hes not doing because shes being mean to him but either eway this method will work just watch

Spank him on his thigh EVERY time he does it. Consistancy is key. Sit him down and calmly yet sternly explain to him that his behavior is unexceptable, it upsets you when he does this. Don't let the child hug you or try to hold you while he cries. He has to learn. Make sure you give the same consequence everytime.

a lot of babies tend to do this,,,eventually it will stop..try buying him teething items or a zippy cup that he can always have in his mouth....good luck

Bite him back each time. If it didn't work, then doctors wouldn't recommend it.
