Alcoholics nameless does not contradict the straightforward ideals of Christianity. It enables human beings to view God in accordance to their very own faith. a trustworthy Christian would desire to understand that if a individual first recognizes a "larger power", that individual has moved closer to the fullness of Christianity. AA makes use of the word "larger power" extremely of "God" as a manner to have the potential to help greater human beings triumph over the savage misery of alcoholism. i'd like the completed international to be Christian, yet i comprehend there are a number of non-Christian alcoholics who choose help. i think of that's great that AA is welcoming to all people who choose help. I even have usually happening many alcoholics, and the wear and tear that alcoholism motives to their lives and the lives of others is wonderful. it would be tragic if AA excluded Jews and Muslims from their help courses. i'm Roman Catholic. Peace be with you.

There is also a program called Al-Anon for your friends and family to go to which will teach them how to help you. Also, if you are alcoholic for long enough and get the inevitable DUI, they will teach you similar material in DUI school, which will probe you to treat yourself - it has for me, anyhow. I personally cannot stand AA, due to the preachiness, and especially the surrender to a higher power. AA tends to be held in churches, by church people, and while I am not against religion, I can't stand being proselytized. Seriously, just stop drinking if you are concerned. There is no better motivator to quit than your own self (examine the damages alcohol has caused you) and the support of concerned friends and family. Good luck...

nothing works as well as AA in the early days when staying away from alcohol is so difficult the support and understanding that only fellow alcoholics can give you is vital to your continued sobriety .I have been an alcoholic for 35years and thanks to AA the last 23 have been sober I naturally disagree with the contributor who advises you to stay away from AA because of a perceived religious connection ,the reason many AA meetings are held on church premises is because most churches are very understanding and realize that most AA groups have very little money and they give rooms free of charge

Antibuse would probably work if you could find a doctor to prescribe it, but if you drink while taking it, you will get violently ill and have a considerably higher risk of having a stroke. Best suck it up and go to a meeting.
