Name your sources, if you like, but PLEASE do NOT reproduce the entire content of any “holy” book here to make/support your case – I’ll take your word for it. :-) … I am, in fact, only interested in the underlying spirito-physiological mechanisms of soul-separation and nature, IF ANY, as opposed to the theological proof (or NOT) of its existence. Again, I am interested in YOUR understandings and interpretations of the issue at hand (based on your intuitions and/or faithful references) and not verbatim reproductions of chapters and verses of “holy” books of faith. Please be concise and, above all, TO THE POINT. …Thank You!

I apologize if I could not make the spirit of my question clear enough for you to be able to focus on the exact issue I was concern about. Nonetheless, thanks for some great answers.

Out-of-body experiences (OOB) have been described and experienced in every period of human history and by every human culture. They are suppressed in our culture for obvious reasons. (Witness for example how those who claim they are victims of alien abduction are viewed and treated in this society. Though I am not here either claiming or disclaiming that such abductions either do or do not occur.) Below find a link to a complete bibliography on the subject. I would suggest starting off with the works of Robert A. Monroe.

I would add only that once as a child of about 6 or 7 years old I myself experienced in the waking state while sitting at my desk in school an OOB which lasted no more than a second or two because it scared the sh*t out of me and I was thrust right back into my body as a result of the shock. I can tell you that in that state I was fully aware of a change in position in space of about 5 or 6 feet from where my physical body was located and I know I still had the sense of vision. I could not see my physical body, however, because I had projected forward and my body was (presumably) still situated behind me out of my view.

Since the optimum operating condition for a spiritual being is actually from outside the body , the question would be why retain any physical limitations? The best relationship is to be in control of and animate and operate a body, not the other way round, i.e. the body controlling you.

In cases of Demon Possession as referenced in the Bible when Christ drove demons from a man into a heard of Swine there was embodyment of Spirits, no t another soul.
If I understand your question your wondering if an actual soul could embody another body.
I personally do not believe so. yet as with my example demonic spirits can pose as a soul to manipulate witnesses to believe that they are the spirit of an individual.
Demons, being Spirits can be privy to detailed information enough that they can rather convincingly pose as a passed loved one embodying an unscrupulous individual who has given themself over to demonic possession.
