I smoked about 8-12 cigarettes per day for 18 years, but three months ago I decided enough was enough and I quit cold turkey. Since the day I quit I've had no serious cravings and no withdrawal symptoms. I'm also at the point where I find smoking to be disgusting. Why was quitting so easy when other people have such a horrible battle trying to quit? Am I just lucky??

You were lucky, and your intake wasnt very high so you would not have had as much nicotine floating around in your system. I smoked 40 a day from the age of 16 until I was 36 and found it very hard to stop. But I have not smoked for almost 8 years now and am very happy to be an ex..;

Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn't addicted!

Here's what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it's regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don't know if they still have that deal, but it's worth a try.

Congratulations Hartley!!
You know 18 years...wow!!
Most doctors will recommend that a smoker try to cut down to less than 10 cigarettes a day before trying to quit cold turkey.....so maybe the fact that you only smoked 8 - 12 a day was in your favor the whole way. A lot of times when a person has made up their mind to quit...it takes most of the challenge out of quitting. I am really happy for you...Great job

Quitting smoking is not hard but quitting the HABIT of smoking is very hard. Nicotine withdrawals are gone out of the body in 48 hours and the body starts healing itself after that. The cravings only last for 3-4 days (on an average) but the habit of smoking is what people fight with.

I don't think luck has anything to do with it. It was easy because you really wanted to quit. I smoked for 5+ years and I quit cold turkey and didnt have a problem with it either. I think the key to quitting is the true desire of the individual.

Congratulations! Good for you!

If you had smoked two or three packs a day (that's 40 to 60 smokes), I guarantee you it would have been much more difficult. I cut down from three packs to one pack, and am psyching myself to quit altogether. It's still going to be difficult, but I hope to make it.

I quit yesterday and I have cravings but I just have the willpower to ignore them. Its not that bad when you're tough.

EDIT: Smoking was a stupid idea in the first place. Who was the first person to say "lets set these leaves on fire and breathe the poisonous smoke"

Because of your utter determination!
I quit 2 years ago after 27 years of 2 packs a day. It was a little hard for 4 days, then got easier all the time.
And yes, smokers absolutely REEK!! (sorry, smokers)
