I switch my daughter to her twin bed when she was 2, a few months before I had my son so she didn't feel like she had to give her crib away to the new baby. I don't really see the need of a toddler bed because they grow out of it so fast and then it's another change, we had a rail on one side of her bed for a few months (wall on the other side). She loved her big girl bed right the way.

When your baby gets too long for the crib or is able to climb out of the crib is is time for a toddler bed. Until then it is really up to you. I'm all for keeping my kids in a crib until they outgrow or can climb out...because it is so much easier to get them to stay in bed and go to sleep and you don't have to worry about the toddler wandering around the house at night. My first baby will be 3 in a month, and she is still in her crib. I had another baby 2 weeks ago and I am using a bassinet for now. I'm holding off on deciding to get another crib because my older kid may figure out how to climb out of the crib next week...then the dilemma will be solved.

what I was told was when the baby climbs out of the crib. My son was right about 2, we moved him to a toddler bed about a month later.

i say when you can trust them to wake you up and not stick figers in the socket and get into too much mishceif. I would no recomend at 13 months bc they would not come a wake you up as to a 4 year old would or a 3 year old would. The toddler bed they are able to get out of it by themseves. SO i would wait until you know your child would at least sit and watch tv until you wake up or at least come and wake you up to let you know he/she is up.

I did my son at about 15 months there was no problem, he fell twice and that was it. It did not even faze him, no crying at all. I did not wait until he could he could climb out. As for the child opening door I put a door lock (the child proof kind) on the inside of the room, it works beautifully. Go ahead she will be fine and I would not waste my money on the side rails.

It depends on the child
My son moved at about 22 months and my daughter did at 18 months
It jsut depends on when they are ready
But do it before they can crawl out by themselves that is dangerous

There isn't a specific age, it's just whenever they start trying to climb out. The reason for that is because you don't want them up high in a crib when they start climbing for fear that they might fall out and hurt themselves.
