Jesus came to the Earth to start the ball rolling, so to speak, in the quest for people who lament the discord on the Earth and all the other terrible things, and want to benefit from the only means of peace open to the Earth - Gid's Kingdom. When enough of these people are found, and some other conditions are fulfilled (very possibly all at the same time), then Jesus with God's backing will step in to bring peace to the Earth.

Humans, like other animals, use violence to persue their interests, making peace very unlikely, if not impossible. Also, we should define the word "peace" more specifically. For decades the Serbs and Bosnians were at peace with each other, but was that to be preferred? Then when their central government collapsed, the old hostilities came back with a vengeance.

Unfortunatly as a species we have developed tecnologically at a quicker pace than we have socialy.
All animals fight over certain things - teritory, power, food, love etc, including humans. The problem occurs because nature did not intend for these to be faught with anything other than claws and teeth etc. When u add guns bombs etc then the balance is out of sync.
Therefore wars will always exist until our social development has caught up with our technological developments
ie - over my dead body

Unfortunately the human race is very greedy, power obsessed and jealous. There will always be somebody out there who wants more out of everything. Peace on earth will only be obtained when everybody believes in the same thing... and that is clear to see, just aint gonna happen... at least not in our lifetimes!

Jesus wasn't trying to bring a temporal "peace on Earth" the first time He came. Temporal peace is impossible for Man because of his sinful nature. As long as Man sins, there can never be peace. There can only be a "forced" peace (which the UN wants), which isn't really peace at all. "Shut up or we'll kill you" - that's their version of world peace.
The only true peace that will come will be after Jesus returns and destroys all sinners.

Their would be peace on earth if everyone realized we all came from the same God and Abraham was the first, not Jesus.

I believe that there will be a period of peace on earth, but it will only come as a byproduct of a devastating war. How long the period will be would depend on whether mankind has learned from the past, or not.

Jesus did not try to make peace on earth the first time. He came to bring a sword. It is the next time He will make peace by way of judgment and vengence.

Not until the Prince of Peace comes and a new heaven and a new earth is brought in.
For this the whole creation groans and travails in pain.
