My daughter broke my windows 2000pro cd. We have the key just need the software cd.

It doesn't work that way... The program on the CD is coded to transmit the correct key code and if the one you enter does not match the CD you used you won't be able to activate it.
I'm sorry. It is no different then if you dropped and broke your favorite watch. You will have to replace it with a new one.

and how much are you going to pay for said operating system?
You have probably had this for a while. Contact Microsoft and let them know. They can probably issue a CD since you have the product key. Have you registered the software by chance? This will also help. They may charge a small fee to replace it.

Bring the broken cd back to the store where you bought it and tell them your problem. If you have receipt or proof of purchase I am sure they will replace it for you.
