Facing East. Since the dawn of time the rising and setting of the Sun has held religious significance. Christianity was pre-dated by the early solar religions by many thousands of years, but Christianities eventual dominance reflects its Pagan roots. Someone please mention the origin of SUNday, the Christian HOLY day.

Traditionally, yes - the Nave and the Sanctuary run east-to-west - with the apse and the Altar being at the East end...i.e., with the Priest at a Traditional Mass facing East and the rising sun (symbolic of the Risen Lord) and Jerusalem.

Not all are - but tradition dictates that they should be built that way.

Most of the older/catholic ones are done that way.

they are built facing the East, which is the direction of the Sun rising in the morning as a reminder of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday and in honour of the rising of the Son of God from the dead.

No, my Church has another Chuch across the street from it. They are facing opposite directions.

Yes, they normally face the street in which they are on. Occasionally you find one facing to the right or left if the parking is setup a certain way.

I assume you mean a christian church not places of geheral worship.

Christian churches are in the shape of a cross and face towards Jerusalem.

No, not any more, in Medieval times they would face east/west, but in modern times, you have to build in relation to the roads
