Air has nothing to do with it. Plenty of bacteria (some of the nastiest, in fact) do their best (worst) without air.
And consider the source... Convenience Store Cuisine is not going to come from a hospital-sanitized food source, and isn't going to be made by Emeril LaGasse.
Face it, some dropout with a runny nose slapped your hoagie together a week ago and you just got it 52 (unrefrigerated) hours ago.

If I was you i would just buy another sandwich and call it a day! Just throw away that bacteria infected sandwich! The mayonise, lettuce probably got soggy by now and the cheese and meat is bad by now. It might look good but trust me its not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can eat it but it's not recomended the cheese and meats are probably spoiled by now and the bacteria might have transferred over to the other stuff

NONONONONO!!!! The meat will have gone bad without refrigeration, even if it doesn't taste bad believe me you will be SO SICK!! Not worth it! Food poisoning is zero fun - first you're afraid you're gonna die, then you're afraid you won't!!

72 hours is pretty long..it would of being edible if it was inside a refrigerator...don't eat it you might get food poison,,,,
