Skaaz ~
Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest boxer ever voted by the Sports Writers of America, Boxing Hall of Fame Inductees for the past 10 years, Ring Magazine, KO Magazine, Boxing Illustrated Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Boxing Writers Association,Randolph "Burt" Sugar boxing Historian, Bill Cayton owner of the worlds largest fight collection and Boxing Manager, Don King Fight Promoter of the year 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 87, 88, 90, 93, 94, 00, 01, 02 and 04. Angelo Dundee legendary fight trainer and many, many more. It's kind of hard to argue with names like that.

Ray Robinson had more Knock Outs that Rocky Marciano had fights, twice as many. Sugar Ray had more fights than any three Heavyweight titlist combined including Rocky Marciano.

"The Rock" was a pure brawler and not a boxer, Ray was a complete and total boxer.

When you ask the question of best boxer ever-you have to consider several factors-
Pure Athletic Skills. Record. Title Reign. Society Relevence. The ability of his oppenents.

Based on these factors- Cassius Clay/Muhammed Ali.

Muhammed Ali as Cassius Clay in his prime could not be stopped. His quickness and skills could not be matched. He surely would have a comparable record to Rocky Marciano if he would have been allowed to continue to be champion in his first reign. However, the break between his first time as champion and the fact we was not allowed to fight for at least two years shows you that he was the greatest. Afterall, he did regain the title after being stripped of it.
-Ali faced the most feared fighters of any generation-Liston, Frazier, Norton and Foreman. Rocky Marciano can not even come close in claiming to fight those caliber of opponents. His only claim to fame was a fight with a wash up Joe Luis who was only fighting for the money (due to his financial difficulties) at that point.
-Once you watch documentaries on the conditions in which Ali was fighting in during the sixties and seventies with the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement and his influence in both-there is no doubt that he had to fight under a lot more adversity than Marciano and that he had clearly demonstrated his social revelence to our society.

This is what makes him the best boxer of all time.

For the heavyweights, many boxing experts consider Rocky Marciano to be the greatest, as he is the only heavyweight fighter to go undefeated. In middleweights, many say Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest.
