you can use your windows cd to install on to your niece's computer (because you're not selling it to her and she is family, there shouldn't be no legalities there so long as you paid for your cd)
and - if your niece's computer is compatible with WinXP

if you can - burn the itunes on to a disc then reinstall them once the computer is fixed
or you should be able to save them to your gmail account providing there's enough Gigabyte space
then redownload them to your niece's computer once its fixed
good luck

The pc may have genuine Windows, the Microsoft Verification tool doesn't always work.
But the retailer should have checked that before he sold the pc and got it verified. Otherwise its not fit for the purpose for which it has been sold.
He has offered to fix the problem but do you trust him to do it?

It should be possible to verify XP without having to format or re-install, and without losing the files. But not by using your cd.
Just try installing the Verification Tool from Microsofts site
http://www.microsoft.com

If it doesn't work then phone Microsoft and explain the problem, tell them where your niece bought the pc from. I'm not sure if she'll have to pay.

If its not just the operating system but also software just uninstall it.

First of all your software be be genuine. The WGZ (Windows Genuine Advantage) program that Microsoft shoves down your throat is wrong about 17% of the time. The easiest thing to do is save all your files ( not OS files of course) on a CD and get a second hand volume license WINXP CD. I'd tell you where but the people at Yahoo don't like it. Email me if you like

If it is a counterfeit or a copy then it will not work correctly, as for putting your copy of XP into her computer that will not work either, as each XP disc has a code number that can only be used once, for the I tunes try and save them onto a CD or DVD writable disc, that way they are safe, then take the computer to the person who sold it to you so he can sort it out with out risking loosing your stuff. good luck.

If you are talking about general software, not the operating system, you can uninstall software from the Control Panel (Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.) If there is no uninstall options in the programs folders, just deleting the folders will work and won't leave enough to be illegal.

You could phone Microsoft and explain to them what you have said on here and if the XP copy is not genuine they may give you an activation code to use, and they will investigate the retailer to see if they are selling the genuine licenced copy or not.

no, you cant install XP on two machines, as soon as it connects to the web, the earlier one will stop working and you will find it hard to get any data off it.

copy music from itunes will eventually render it useless as it has a progressive coding which corrupts it after 3 copies.

dont use XP and dont use iTunes.... a bit late for that though!

save the itunes to a memory card. Then get hold of legal copy of your chosen software. You can get cheap OEM software off the net if you 'google'.
