Explain why high levels of chlorine in the human body can be toxic.?

I don't know, and I have never known anyone who had high levels of chlorine in their body (like the blood?). I know if you inhale chlorine vapors, it's bad because the chlorine reacts in the lungs to form an acid that destroys the lung tissue.
