I go through a two step process that eliminates odor and gets the carpet very clean. I first pour a half cup of water with a few teaspoons of white vinegar in it over the urine spot. I leave it on a few minutes then use paper towels and pressure to soak up the urine and vinegar solution. After that, I soak the area in Resolve Tough Stain Carpet Cleaner spray. I brush it in and leave it a few minutes then use paper towels again to soak up the excess moisture. Sometimes if it was a big puddle I use more of both product and might do a second Resolve step. I never had problems with any lingering odor or carpet damage.

The best advice is treat the stain and smell on top the best you can with special pet products. Then take the carpet off and clean the underpadding of the carpet (that's why the smell stays in).
Petsmart has some great products, but it doesn't help to touch up with plain vinegar which naturally soaks up the smell.
Keep your pup away from that spot, incase it feels like licking up the cleaning solution (which could make your dog ill in some cases)

Baking soda + mandatory oil (Lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus). Baking soda is really low-cost (frequently $a million for a small field) and could very last you a lengthy time period. The baking soda is used to eliminate the scent from the carpet. mandatory oil (somewhat extra severe priced, about $10-20 for a nil.5-a million ml bottle) is used to characteristic a delightful heady fragrance later on so %. a scent that you want. blend a million cup of baking soda (extra or a lot less counting on the dimensions of your carpet) with some drops of the oil in a jar. Use a sifter and spread it in the course of the stained section. enable take a seat for an hour or 2. Vacuum afterwards. that is the most inexpensive and fastest technique that you'll make the most of to eliminate the scent. also works on mattresses to repel and eliminate airborne dirt and dust mites.

the first answer was absolutely right and here's why. any product that contains an enzyme eliminator will completely remove any urine, fecal, vomit scent permenantly. other cleaners may just cover it up, and the dog may still smell what you cannot. it's all about the enzymes, and lucky for you, there are lots of enzyme eliminator products out there. i would recommend a spray version with no added scent.

The odor will never come out. It can be covered by cleaners as needed, but you will find that it is always there. It has gone all the way through to the padding and floor underneath. The only way to completely get rid of it is to pull up the carpet and get new carpet.
For long term cover up dump a scented oil on the spot and let it soak in. Then you will have a nice fragrance in the room.

There is a wonderful product for getting the stain AND more importantly the odor out. I've only found it at PETSMART, (Not PETCO) It's called Get Serious. It really works and it's easy to use.

You can purchase any cans of spray or shampoo if you shampoo your carpet, that says it removes dog oders such as urine. I would suggest you spray or shampoo your carpets once every couple of months as it will keep them smelling fresh and oders out.
Hope this helps :-)
