they asked Him not to, it was scaring them

read exodus story of the ten commandments

peace

EDIT: communicating with us through the spirit is not the same as God talking to His people. he talked to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, etc When he spoke to Moses on the mountain, His voice so scared the Israelites that they asked Moses to ask God to stop it. If Moses said God said it, it was good enough for them.
Exodus 20:19

Have you ever wondered in your mind a question that no person would be able to answer and then someone you don't even know gives you the answer?
Or perhaps you are having a bad day and you look out your window and see something that makes you smile?
If you think God has stopped talking to His greatest creation, my friend, just look around you. Take a deep breath and you will feel His presence around you and in you. Some times He speaks without saying a word.

He never did stop talking to His people. It's just that today's society doesn't particularly listen for His word quite as much, if at all.

People back in that early age paid much more attention to God and could hear His word. They listened to him a lot more carefully. Whereas in this day and age people don't seem to give a rip and we all sin day in and day out much worse than before, which puts us even further away from being in touch with God.

God speaks to us in different ways now. He gives us signs. They are everywhere. Every time I am in a difficult situation or life feels tough, I try to tune into the signs and figure out, what does God want me to do? What would He have me do in this situation? There are always small occurances or signs of things going on that lead me and point me in a direction where I feel he is trying to lead me. That is how God speaks to us, the trick is we just have to listen.

God has not stopped talking to His people. Just as the world keeps turning and flying and orbiting in space the communication lines have always been opened. But then again, before God really talks to you, you have to qualify with your humility. Arrogance, pride and especially, egotism, much more so, lack of faith, will not qualify you to be talked with. You have to make the grade.
Would you like to talk with an obnoxious person who is a vexation to your own spirit?

Of course he didn't. In this day and age, people don't listen. We are so busy with our day to day problems, it makes it hard to listen. I'm a Christian, and it is very hard to have a active daily relationship with God, I have bills and work and so on, The main thing is spending time with God. The was to do this is go where he is, true he is everywhere. But go to church. Pray, read the bible. The more we seek him the easier it will be to hear him when he does speak to you.

I was a passenger in my car going down the interstate. My husband was driving bad and I complained a few times. Finally I asked "why is it that just because you are the man, you always drive us? Why don't you just pull over and let me drive."

He agreed and pulled off at an exit and we changed at the gas station. I had only been driving a few minutes when I got this voice in my head that said "pull over and let Charley drive." I excused it as my own weird thinking and kept going. I then heard it again "Pull over and let Charley DRIVE" .

By then, I knew God (or his angels) were telling me this. I became upset about it because I thought I was being taught a lesson of submission which I didn't want to learn. I argued with God in my head. A third time, I heard "PULL OVER AND LET CHARLEY DRIVE."

At that point, I asked my husband "where should I pull over because I don't know why, but God is telling me to let you drive?"

Charley said to just pull to the top of the ramp and we would switch out there. We did so and he pulled back onto the ramp. but no sooner than we got up to speed, we had to stop in the middle of the interstate. There had been a major collision. We sat for about 3 hours and watched news hellicopters, life line, and all kinds of emergency vehicles ahead of us by like a mile. When we finally got through we saw a 3 car collision had happened and they were mangled. There had been deaths.

I knew right away it hadn't been about submitting to my husband at all, but about God or his angels letting me know of the danger ahead. I ws sure glad that I had been prayed up and reading the bible or I may have missed his voice.

Didn't God only speak to select people? If he routinely spoke to everyone there would be no need for the bible, as everyone would know God.

I am sure that if God can create the universe he can do a telepathic "all-page" if you will, and give the same messages to everyone. Or he could just shout it down from heaven. I am sure he could design a mic and a speaker system that would allow us to hear. He could have even put little "God chips" in us, that would pick up his signals so we could always hear him.

None of this happened. That is why I do not believe in this God business.

Exodus 20:18-19
18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die."

God bless

Jus sayin,
You know that Bible that many keep trashing? He spoke a lot there, and people wouldn't believe Him then. So what makes you think to even ask the question? I think that it is because you don't know Him. If you knew Him, you would love Him for what He's done for you.

I am content in some ways, that I know Him. In other ways, I desire to know Him more.

Talking? Yes, He really isn't silent. I can't say that it is talking, as in audible speech, but somehow He still gets His word across, you just have to let Him guide you.

People realized that god was not talking to them after they stopped eating the bread that was naturally contaminated with Ergotamine, a powerful hallucinogenic fungus that grows on the wheat plant.

The people that still think god talks to them are either delusional from some chemical imbalance or they have found an alternate source of hallucinogenics.
