I was wondering the same thing, all large breed dogs when they are younger are bouncy so they will knock over your child.... I had the same problem with an American Bulldog he was really bouncy and kept jumping up on my daughter, it got to a point my daughter got scared of him she is 2, she always wanted to walk him but he was too big...... we could no longer keep him cause he all of a sudden became aggressive and dominant after a little dog that was off his leash attacked him, he then became scared and i didn't know how to correct him cause he was strong so we had to find him another home, well after a few months I had another baby and I really wanted to get another dog, now I have a daughter who is 1 and my other daughter who is 3 and we just got a Boston Terrier, I love this dog he is the perfect size for my children, don't knock them over and is really smart and just fits in our house perfectly, I do want a boxer also as a second dog but i want to wait until my kids are a little bigger to handle a big dog..... right now my little dog is perfect my daughter could walk him with no problem..... just do a breed selector to try find a breed that would suit you and your family..... any dog would fit into your home with the proper supervision and training. PLEASE DO NOT ever leave your child unsupervised even for a minute around your puppy or dog though cause at any minute your child could walk up to your sleeping puppy or dog and pull its ear or hurt your dog without meaning to and the dog could bite your child, puppies do bite so you have to remember that to...... you have to teach your puppy manners from day one!!! keeping them on a leash while you are walking around the house is a good way for training and housebreaking.

Yes, they are great family pets. I have mine sleeping next to me now. I got them when I was eight years old and couldn't have found a better soul mate. As with all dogs, dogs need training. the breed doesn't matter as to whether a child will get knocked down or not (size I admit has a factor) but it doesn't matter if it is a boxer, lab or pit. My neighbor has two pit mixes with two children under four and a cat and have no problems. Her children who don't mind if the big dogs bodies pushing them about but the dogs know not to jump. Same as my other neighbor who has two boxers ages 2 and 6 months with two kids ages about 7 and 4. The boxers are fine and know manners and how to behave like not jumping and getting roudy. Her boxers are very docile. My neighbor catty corner to us has a four year old boxer and they just had a baby a year ago with no problems. I have found boxers to be very tolerant and great with kids. Remember finding a good breeder is key- go to the breed club's web site. A good breeder breeds sound temperments and help you in any way. Also, dogs require training so time will have to be spent there. My vote is a deffinate yes! Boxers are the best family dogs- they changed my life.

Boxers make wonderful pets with children. Depending on the ages of the children, you might do better with one from a rescue that is over the puppy stage and may have been in a family with small children. They can get very hyper and accidentally knock a little one down. As with any dog, you must train both dog and children on what they can and can't do. I have 2 rescues and they are great.
Please check out a boxer rescue and see if they have one that would meet your wants and needs.
Good luck.

Boxers are not for the inexperienced dog owner. They are very energetic and require a firm (but loving) hand. They're great for older kids, but not so much the little ones as they don't always know their own strength.

Also with boxers its best to have another dog for him or her to romp around with.

If you do eventually decide on a boxer make sure the kids don't encourage play biting, have lots of toys instead. Make sure your puppy knows what's okay and what's not. An outside source of dog training can be good too.

Boxers are typically great family dogs! While individuals may have different stories and ideas, this is the one area where most dog breeders and websites agree. Boxers seem to be aware of children's fragility when present and tend to remain calm without jumping or acting excited. I have 2 boxers that are great with children, and have heard many owners say that their children have always played, somewhat roughly, with their dog with no problems whatsoever.

Don't get me wrong; boxers are energetic, bouncy dogs that need exercise and attention, but they do tend to be very well-behaved with children.

They are, without question, one of the best dogs you can have for a family. I wouldn't get one if there were small kids in the house, but as long as the youngest is over 5, you should be fine.

They are extremely energetic, intellegent, loyal, and fierce protectors. But they do have a habit of pushing the younger ones in the household around. Wait until your children get older for a boxer.

Yes, absolutely. My father loved those dogs and we always had one in the house. They love children so much. They are playful and funny. The downsides are they are short-lived, even for a dog; they can have health issues; and they can scare people who don't know about dogs very much. They need to be trained in order to be good dogs in public because they are very boisterous. They are safe and gentle animals, though. You will never regret having a Boxer!

Bopxers are phenomenal dogs - very kind, very loving, very sweet animals.

As several people have already said, they are a FANTASTIC family dog, but not if your kids are preshcool aged. It's not because they're aggressive in any way. It's that they think they're lap dogs (and at 80+ pounds, nothing could be further from the truth!), and may pose an injury risk to small children simply because of their exuberance!

Boxers are great family dogs, but not for young children. They are not aggressive, but their level of energy/excitement causes a lot of bouncing around and jumping. Bound to knock over young children.

Will you be getting a puppy? If so, I think it is fine. Don't listen to anybody who tells you they are mean/agressive dogs. Just because they are big and muscular, does not make them bad. Like one other person said, if they are already big, they might end up knocking over the kids now and then. In their defense, a lab's tail really hurts when it hits you, but they are known as such kid friendly dogs. Boxers are friendly too, they don't knock you over on purpose. As long as you train them to be friendly, they'll be fine.
