Boullion cubes SHOULD be cheaper. If not, you are paying too much for them.

Part of the cost of canned broth is to pay the freight to ship the water in the can, and, for the can, itself. The ingredients in broth and boullion cubes is the same, except for the water.

I use beef or chicken base which is a powder bullion I get from a local restaurant. I make my own chicken broth by boiling chicken (any kind), about 2-3 pounds, small chopped onion, salt, pepper and minced garlic in 3 quarts of water. I strain all the "crap" to have just the broth. It freezes well. We don't eat much beef at our house, so in those cases I may pick up a can. The cubes or powder taste a lot better than the canned broth.

I'd go with boullion. They are cheaper and take up less space in your cupboard then a bunch of cans of broth.

For the price of what you get, neither, Bones, salt, water and a few herbs cost less for what you get. If you like to cut corners,(time wise) go with canned broth.

Probably cubes but, they tend to be too salty. I prefer broth.
