Don't know. Evolution is the random addition of useful genetic differences. The virus might never mutate into something that is a serious threat to humans (it hasn't yet) or it could turn into a species-killer tomorrow.

Personally, I'm not worried. Ebola definitely had the potential to spread like the common cold and produce a real-life version of Stephen King's "The Stand", yet it never produced a mass outbreak. They had an outbreak in Marburg, Germany, but it was successfully contained. Even if H5N1 does become a threat it is vulnerable to vaccines and can be contained with quarantines and bird-kills. I spend more of my time being paranoid about stupid politicians with freezers full of smallpox and nuclear weapons.
