God is the light of the heavens and the earth. His light is as if there were a lustrous niche, wherein is a lamp. The lamp is inside a glass-globe. The globe is, as it were, a glittering star. The lamp is lit from the oil of a blessed tree -an olive - neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil well-nigh would shine forth even though fire touched it not. Light upon light! God guides to His light whomsoever He pleases. And God sets forth parables for men, and God knows all things hidden.

To understand that God is light, you can go to Revelation and read about the new Jerusalem. In it there will be no sun and no more stars. There will be no darkness, no nighttime.

It will be "light" all the time, all of this light is coming from God. It will never dim, nor run out of "fuel".

Alas, all throughout the bible we are told that we cannot come to know God on our own and of ourselves. We cannot believe in him "just in case". God wants that all would want to know him, but as he is no respector of persons, he guides certain people to him, regardless of what we think of that persons back ground, social status, skin color, or upbringing.

The parables that he gave to us in his word are understandable only to believers, to others they seem as silly stories with no real lesson or point.

God knows all things hidden. This one just came to light recently in a very personal way for Rev. Haggard and his family. His so called secret sins from the rest of us were known to God, no matter how hidden that Haggard thought that he was keeping them. God and God alone decided to bring his sins into the light of day for all to know about. He chose not to let Haggard continue to keep them hidden.

I don't know. This stuff doesn't really make a lot of sense. but I can say that God doesn't guide to a light whoever he pleases. He would like everyone to come to the light but we have free will so we have to come on our own.
