The way you asked your question the answer would be 17. But you also must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. The oldest you are can be before you are NOT allowed to join the Army is 35.

35 without an age waiver
42 with an age waiver
Up to 60 if you are a Medical Doctor
The age waiver has been used many time, in cases of where you posses a skill that the Army desires, or are in unusually good physical and mental condition.

Actually they moved it up recently, but I am not sure about the age. I think it was 40 but don't take that as fact.

they did just change it to 42 this year
