Is the draft going to come into effect and if so how serious would it be for a 19 year old?

Just turned 19 nov. 5th... hearing talk about the draft being kicked up again.. wondering if it was true and if so how bad.

There will not be a draft anytime soon. There are several reasons to this:
1. Our military is very technical and highly skilled. You have to pass the ASVAB with a 30 or more to even join. They don't take anyone with any disability or chronic illness, including depression. That in itself would knock out alot of people who would otherwise be eligible for combat.
2. It takes more time to turn civillians into solders than it did in the past. It takes 9 weeks to train a soldier (13 for a marine), just in basic training. After that, a soldier must complete what is known as Advanced Individual Training. The shortest AIT for a MOS is 6 weeks long. Many are alot longer. If the need arose for more members of the Armed Forces, it would take atleast 6 months to train a soldier for the simplest job.
3. The cost is too high. The cost of paying drafted soldiers would put an extreme strain on our already thin budget.

There is not possibility of a draft coming. Even with the conflict in Iraq going on the military is still getting people stepping up in voulnteering to serve their country. I dont know why your worried, the military teaches people a trade, and how to live their lifes if they need a direction. I will go as far to say that the military is not for everyone and that is fine. I dont forsee the draft ever being inacted again. The ratinoale is that the only power int eh world that is a major threat is China and they are not an agressive nation.

Its not really true, so as of right now you don't need to worry about it. However, if it were true and they do reinstate the draft, you my friend would be in the precarious position of either fighting or running to Canada. 19 is one of the first age groups they start drafting...By the way, I'm only 23 and so I would be somewhere in that draft as well. Lets hope for both our sakes that the men and women who valiantly sign up for the armed forces can hold their own and our dumbass government doesn't think they need to fight another war right now.

Well considering we will be fighting in the middle east for the enxt 50 years I would say yes you going to be drafted and not jsut the 19 year old but 19-30 will go to war to eradicate the filth

If his back hurts, he can't read, is not interested in a future governmetn job or govt. grant, gets married, or he has a psycological condition, nothing to worry about.
Besides, I don't think this country is going to stand for that.
Alot of the military doesn't like that sort of thing because the have voluteered and they don't want people next to them who don't want to be there.
